I don’t like 1.8 - it feels like a massive failure

In the vacuum of any information from Roon Labs, users feeling frustrated having spent a lot of money, yes $120 per year is a lot and those spending $699.99 recently on lifetime is as much as a significant HiFi component clearly upset in lost functionality.
