For the last year or so, I have had constant (almost daily) Roon Server crashes. Support said my library was too big (which I do not believe) based on 70% Database availability. About 5000 albums, half were Qobuz.
Anyway, I had an original Roon Nucleus, I bought a new Nucleus One. Same issue. Constant crashes.
I recently replaced the 4 GB memory card with a 16 GB card. It seems very stable now. Here is the card as recommended on the Roon website:
With Nucleus and ROCK, constant crashing is a quite unambiguous sign that RAM is running out. (Roon OS does not swap memory to disk, so it crashes when it runs out of RAM).
Nucleus SSD/RAM Upgrades
If you’re a Nucleus owner and are getting close to hitting the available memory (RAM) for your local library or getting crashes from having too large a Roon library size, or you’re suffering from SSD-related hardware issues, please see below for Roon’s official suggestions for SSD/RAM replacement or upgrade.
And in fact, not crashing is the only improvement that more RAM gets you with Roon OS (again, because Roon OS does not swap to disk - therefore, having more RAM than it needs for the library size does not make it faster, it just stops crashing).
With a library of normal structure, the 4 GB default RAM should be good for ~100,000 tracks, which is usually something between 5K and 10K albums, but obviously depends on the albums. It’s possible that certain library structures might be eating more RAM.
