400,000+ tracks / 12TB+ library - Titan?

My library is 400,000+ and the Roon Nucleus+ just doesn’t handle it well. Often freezing up or refusing to even load and start up. I’m thinking a Titan because of the simplicity of the set up, but would appreciate input. Keep the coast in the range of the Titan. Thanks

A good intel l9 windows desktop pc, 32 gb ram. Load roonserver on it.

My library isn’t quite that big but I have used and old i7-7700 desktop and an 10i7 NUC

So would the Titan be a viable solution? No one answered that and I have the same question. I have zero interest in using a computer. Thank you!

The Titan would be a plug and play solution for a bigger library. If that is your primary concern then it is your simplest option. You may need some time to ‘point’ the device at your collection and then 12tb will itself take some time unless you have already done this. If you have then take a backup from your existing setup and apply it to the Titan.

You need to build your own solution here. I would not use Titan for this. Take the advise on processor and RAM and go build or buy a prebuilt with these specs from a company that understands how to manage thermals (not Dell unless you look at their workstation class machines). Put it on the other side of the house away from your listening space.

Personally, I would read the article on hardware specifications very carefully.

for the moment I would keep the nucleus+. I would purchase an up to date NAS. I chose UGreen. Get all the needed storage on SSD version. Point the Nucleus to the NAS. For me the improvement was substantial. My library not as large but significant.

Unsure about this, but people run more than 250k on N+ and Titan. And the article is ooold :slight_smile:
As it includes „your best bet will be to get a beefy Roon OS setup“ and the Titan is the fastest supported Roon OS platform (edit: and much faster than the N+ when the article was written), I’m not sure what to take from it.

But Titan-or-better performance can surely be had for less money than a Titan.

For the sake of clarity, when they say “Library” are they referring to a combination of local files and saved streams (tracks) from Qobuz/Tidal?

Yes, local and streaming both count the same because the objects and their metadata (and links) must be maintained the same in the database.

You really need someone who has braved the elements and tried a library your size on the Titan, I suspect they are few and far between

You can see from the advise above “Big” users tend to Big Computers , not as pretty but you can hide it . Mine have always been in a separate room from listening even my NUC

Mac Studio recommended by a friend who has 1.5 M tracks is tiny and works perfectly in a library half that size.

IMO. At the price of the Titan it shouldn’t even be questionable what it can handle. You can build 4 times the machine for the same price. Even the top end 16 core M4 Pro Mac Mini with 64GB ram and 1TB SSD (a beast of a machine) is cheaper, which is saying allot.

I tested the Titan with my collection of over 1,000,000 tracks and quickly went back to my cirrus; it costs half as much and delivers twice the performance of the Titan (in my opinion), and looks at least as good.

To be expected - your Cirrus has an i9-14900T with 128GB RAM I think. The Titan, according to @Mikael_Ollars , has a 13th Gen i3 and 4GB 8GB RAM…

The specs here confirm the CPU, but comes with 8gb RAM.
