I’m moving from a Lenovo laptop to the Nucleus One. I’m thinking of getting an 8T SSD for the unit. Amazon has a sale on the SAMSUNG 870 QVO SATA III SSD 8TB 2.5" Any downsides to this selection? Is this a reasonable purchase for someone with a fairly large CD collection - much of which has yet to be ripped?
QVO technology is perfectly fine for music storage - which is a “read-mostly” scenario…
As @Geoff_Coupe writes, the QVO technology is a fine choice for the purpose. And it’s the only one that is available at 8 TB, EVO (which is better for many writes, but this is not the case with music storage) is only available up to 4 TB.
Now, whether you need 8 TB depends on your definition of “fairly” in…
A CD rip to FLAC is about 0.4-0.5 GB on average (maybe 0.6 if you have mostly classical), so 8 TB gives you space for about 16,000 CDs if you fill it to the brim (which you shouldn’t - it’s a good idea with SSD to leave 10-20% empty, but it’s still plenty)
I run two of these (not in the same Core), and they work just fine. Quick, silent and cool runnings!
