$99 Roon Ready from FiiO

Read this yesterday and I thought it’s great too see so many good devices at the entry level of the market.
I have several FIIO devices and all have been great

This is almost cheaper than a pi and a lot nicer looking and easier to maintain. Cheapest USB option by far for a dedicated streamer.

Hats off for FiiO their product line is going from strength to strength. The must have a lot of faith in Roon if that and Airplay are its only services.

One thing not listed here yet.

What they say here in their faq seems a bit odd, feels a bit like Eversolo when they launched the DMP A6 identification as a different already approved device. Let’s hope not.

It’s a pity that Google doesn’t make Chromecast more readily available to manufacturers.

Hopefully this device can be extended over time, but all advice is never to rely on that happening.
I remember having discussions with iFi about Chromecast disappearing from their marketing on the Stream after about 6 months and they outright blamed Google as abandoning their efforts to put it on other platforms.

A lot of connectivity on that little box too, optical, coax and USB, with Ethernet and WiFi.
For $99?
Technology is getting better ( cheaper) every day, what a wonderful time to be into music.

Yes it’s an odd limitation, I think it’s also likely a cost thing for these Chinese companies. Why Android doesn’t have it built in is beyond me it’s their own transport mechanism. Apple has the ability to receive and send on their computers why not allow same for Chromecast on Android Os?

Yes I might be talking myself into buying something I really don’t need as it looks so neat.

I like the idea of sending USB audio to a couple of my headphone DAC amps using DSD over USB. I will wait for Room Ready to be confirmed and follow my own advice for a change :face_with_peeking_eye:

Would be perfect if it did dsd 512. But usb out is great.

It’s DoP only so that’s off the cards.

It seems to be something that Google wanted to control. Not sure beyond that as they remain very tight lipped about it.
I did ask Peter once as Lumin also do not support Chromecast and he never replied

Ah, what OS is it running?

Android they say.

I had exactly the same thought, but then I would need to get a new device as my M1 really tops out with HQPlayer at 256 with the filters I most enjoy. So maybe it is a bonus

Hmm better than paying eversolo or rose prices for an outdated android os.

Likely outdated as well going by their daps, makes their development easier as it’s not got changing goalposts and of course is free. Doesn’t mention what it is and only in faq about DNLA

Using Android prevents them from supporting NAA which makes me sad.

The price point is directly targeted at WiiM which is nice to see. Will be interesting to see if this has frequent price drops though.

Just like getting a Wiim to put in my junk closet, if it goes on sale during Amazon days, I might pick one up to to play around with.

Wiim might but I doubt this will. FiiO stuff seems to not be discounted much. Perhaps less margins.

I thought I answered about it before. We do not support Chromecast. There were multiple hurdles involved.

Sorry Peter you did reply to my original question, I then asked why no Chromecast support.

Personally I want all my devices to support all the protocols (especially as an Android user), but I have since found from others that there are many hurdles involved with Chromecast so I now have more Sympathy for those involved in building these devices.

I would love to own a Lumin device one day
