A fantastic possibility for OPERA music fans : listen following original and translated librettos using "Karaoke" mode

In August 2020 I had submitted this :
OPERA MUSIC is a demanding style for Roon. Aside from multiple disks not always put in the right sequence or grouped correctly in the Library, librettos would be GREAT to have in Karaoke form :

  • it needs good synchronization

  • and it is most often multilingual, the user should be able to choose between the origin language and the one he prefers.

  • and could we even have the Libretto in Karaoke mode with the origin plus chosen language simultaneously rolling in the Karaoke window ?

It could make Roon a FANTASTIC tool for enjoying and exploring this rich musical genre.
Amateurs of Opera in Roon, please show you support for implementing this and other suggestions of improvements - and thanks Roon guys for looking at how this could be done !

It did not receive much traction back then. But time has passed and Roon possibilities have expanded.

NOW IN 2026, with LLM-based automatic traduction, the Karaoke mode could be used combined with automatic translation ! Ideally a two-column window synchronized : first column original sung libretto, second column in user’s choice language.

If like me you dream of having this feature implemented in Roon, vote for it !

At the baseline your suggestion is really just adding the libretto as synchronized lyrics. The means to do so for yourself already exists. It just takes a lot of time. And any synchronized file created would only really work for the recording. In opera, the phrasing/timing of individual artists would make a universal file disjointed.

This post is not in the Feature Request section. Is this post supposed to be the Request, and thus be able to be voted on, then I will move it to the relevant section, when you let me know.

If there already is such a feature request, then I would suggest adding a link to that request so others are not left floundering to try and search for themselves.

  • yes please move it to the request section, all of it including current reply
  • In 2020 it got zero traction so no need to link to it, I summed it up in the text.
  • About synchronization this I do not think is critical, I rather see it as reading the booklet while listening. Sometimes it was provided in several languages with the physical records. Best format is alike bilingual books.
  • About the user getting the libretto and letting it into Roon upon listening, it would be much better to have Roon propose it automatically for operas proposed with lyrics. It would actually provide Roon a leading edge for demanding opera listeners.
