About Plexamp

I’m late to this thread, but FWIW, I don’t use Plex on RoPieee. I do use Plex on Windows for my video and film collection. I only use Roon on RoPieee.

if you play something on plexamp headless and then pause it, the audio device will be released after about 10 seconds … long press play/pause also clears the play queue

long press play/pause (held until you feel haptic feedback) clears the queue

the double stacked “v” icon in your item 3 above moves the queue to whatever device you’re remote controlling from (your phone, etc)

I too am late to this thread, but I rely on both the Plexamp and Spotify features for my daily music listening, and would be sad to see Plexamp go. I am not a Roon user.

Could @Michael_Harris expand on his use of Symphonium please? Do you point it at your Plex Media Server and then “cast” to the UPNP function within Ropieee?

Thanks.

Hi Nigel I do exactly that for pointing at my Plex server and normally will have many thousands of music files stored offline on my phone as well as streaming albums from my Plex server

Based on using it in my home for the last 2 years I can say that Symfonum seems to supports the following endpoints

  • Local phone and BT
  • Chromecast
  • Squeezelite
  • PlexAmp
  • UPNP
  • Sonos

I will attach a screenshot from my phone, but remember SYMFONIUM is Android only. This will give you an Idea, though it looks like the PlexAmp endpoints are no longer available after the lasted release. Ropieee is a perfect partner endpoint for it

Thanks so much Michael for taking the time for such a detailed reply and also thanks to everyone else on this thread for putting up with this off-topic excursion

I’m Android so I think I’ll definitely give Symphonium a trial.

I think for some who want to use a Plex server and play music back it is a great choice.
I bought Symfonium after a couple of hours of use and could see it was the perfect yet flexible music player that you could configure to meet your needs.
As said there are multiple playback options when using Ropieee and I have used UPMP, SQZ & Plex for playback.
Mostly I use it with BT speakers and headphones when I travel and a dongle DAC as it also support bit perfect playback as well. I hope you enjoy your trial

I switched from Plexamp headless on my Pi 5 to Ropieee because I wanted Spotify connect and Airplay in addition to Plexamp. Would be sad to see it go :frowning:
Yes the occasional issue with playback is frustrating where I have to go into the plexamp UI from my browser and change the output device to default and then back to the actual device.

For those not using plexamp, isn’t keeping it disabled as good as it not being there? Or does it still interfere with other services?
