Accessing Server files from another PC in LAN

Hi, I’m in a testing phase of Roon before buying. Right now it runs on my main PC because I do not have any NUC device. But if I get one it will be placed in the basement with SSD connected via USB with all my music. Most important question is if I can access all files from another PC in the same network? In case I want to upload some files without having to go downstairs to get the drive and plug to my main PC.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Roon community, @ferszcik.

Yes, you can access your music files over the network. They are presented as an SMB share.

I store my master copies on another machine, and synchronize using rsync when I add new music or change metadata.

rsync -azP --delete ~/Music/Library/ /media/martin/Music/Storage/StoreJet_Transcend_WD-WXN1A47P6ZX4_8be99c9b-f767-48e1-8af7-7a7f76521c87-p1/Library

Incidently, there’s no need for a USB SDD: it has zero impact on performance, and noise won’t be an issue in the basement.

Thank you!

My main PC has Windows 10, will I be able to access Core files with Windows Explorer like a regular lan directory with an IP?

When it comes to SSD, I just have one spare external disk to use for storage, I know there is zero difference between HDD SSD performance in this case

Yes, this is supported.

Yes

Why would you reply to 1 year old topic?

Because for some reason the forum has started to put ancient topics into my recommendation list for the past few days, and one time I didn’t notice.
