Thanks for reaching out, and no worries, nothing is permanently lost here.
Before we point you in the right direction, we’d like to confirm which screen you were on when this happened, because Roon has two separate lists and the fix is different for each.
Settings → Audio is where AirPlay devices live. AirPlay is built into Roon Server itself, so there’s no such thing as an AirPlay extension. If your AirPlay zones are what disappeared, they should still be listed on that page , scroll to the AirPlay section, and any zone showing as disabled just needs Enable clicked to bring it back. If the zones aren’t listed at all, restarting Roon Server usually re-discovers them within a minute or two.
Settings → Extensions lists third-party add-ons built by community developers using the Roon API. The Remove button there doesn’t uninstall anything, it only tells Roon to forget an extension it had previously authorized. The extension software itself is still running wherever you installed it (a Raspberry Pi, a PC, Docker, or the Roon Extension Manager). Restarting that host will have each extension re-announce itself to Roon Server, and they’ll reappear on the Extensions page for you to authorize again.
One thing worth mentioning: Roon doesn’t publish any extensions of our own, so everything on that page comes from independent developers. We’re glad to help with anything on the Roon side, but if a particular extension doesn’t come back after its host is restarted, the developer’s thread in our #roon-api category is the best place to ask.
Could you let us know which of the two pages you clicked Remove on, and what hardware your extensions were running on? We’ll take it from there.
Thanks haven’t tried that but I already have TIDAL and Qobuz apps on my Sony Bravia 900 series tv via t YouTube TV so trying to finagle apple air play from my living room to the family room just isn’t working or worthwhile the SQ is great — I just wanted to hear if ROON made SQ even better thanks for the input will see if your feedback works bobbmd
Been a while, hope you’ve been well! Thanks for the update on the current situation, it sounds like the extensions didn’t come back? Have you tried to reboot your networking gear and Roon Server yet? What extensions are you still missing?
Going to retry tomorrow still have no extension but I use the Audirvāna remote on my phone and use chromcast plug and play to get it through my tv and sound bar and will try to do same with ROON but as I said before I tried this I already have TIDAL and Qobuz on on my TV so get them anyway but wanted to try ROON and AvS to see if SQ was any different thank all for your help
Thanks again you folks are terrific but sometimes too technical for me. I am sitting in my family room and on my Sony Bravia TV is A full screen picture with album cover of The Dead singing Mississippi Half Step playing from my living room and my 2020 M1,Mac mini— the sound bar in here sounds almost as good as my Legacy Audio Stereo HD monitors in the living room,I also have downloaded the ROON remote! And I also have been able to get Audirvāna Studio on/in the family room and its remote so I can compare you two! BTW the rest of my very simple system is Schiit Yggdrasil GS Gen 5 and Rggy just the amp. Thanks again for all you support bobbmd
Glad you got there. Mississippi Half-Step on a good system is a fair test of anything.
One thing worth leaving here, since you mentioned still having no extensions: you do not need any. AirPlay is built into Roon Server itself and lives in Settings > Audio, not in Settings > Extensions. Nothing you removed touched it, and there is nothing to restore.
We are closing this thread. If something stops working later, please open a new one and link back here.
