So I usually add new FLAC and WAV files to my server simply dragging and dropping into the drive location. This has previously just worked, ie, a second or two later they appear in the ‘added’ section of recent activity on the home screen of Roon.
Now when I add an album, it seems to be hit or miss whether it shows up. quitting the app and reconnecting, waiting for an hour etc all the usual wait and see… but some just won’t show up. I delete them from the Roon server, and then re-add them, and sometimes they suddenly appear. But not always. Mostly when they do appear, it’s with 1 song in the album. Or a few songs.
Really hit and miss stuff. Anyone else have this issue?
When I add album(s) to Roon, I first disable my storage location in Roon, in order to make sure it is completely copied before Roon can start its import/identifying job.
After transfer completion storage is enabled again.
This avoids all similar issues as you have described.
I know it is a workaround, but still better than having to wait or cleanup.
It isn’t necessary to disable the watched folder before adding music files. Roon KB even states you can just ‘drag and drop’ files (using a computer) onto the Roon desktop client to add music files.
@support has anyone officially reported this hit ’n’ miss adding files to a watched folder and not always appearing. It has occurred a few times for me, but only started occurring about 3 months ago.
Thanks for reaching out. Can you please confirm, is the drive a NAS location, or it is a local HDD? Are there any patterns to the types of files causing this issue?
If you can please reproduce the behavior and let us know the exact local time + date + file added, we can check logs to see if there was an import shown in the logging.
If you are importing a large amount of files, then it is best to disable the storage location before import and re-enable after, or exit RoonServer and restart it once the transfer was completed.
I had this issue some years ago. I never saw an official fix, but at some point many months later it was resolved. A few months ago, it started happing again intermittently.
Most of the time, forcing a rescan of the watched folder/drive will fix it. Sometimes it takes a reboot.
When it happened years ago, I don’t remember forcing a rescan working. I had to create a temp folder within the watched folder. I would drag/drop any new music to this temp folder, then move (cut/paste) the new music files from the temp folder to the desired location in the watched folder. It seems moving the files from one location to another within the watched folder prompted Roon to properly scan the new music files.
