Adding new folder to storage

I am unable to add a new music folder into storage. I tried copying and pasting the path, (I recently cleaned up my entire library… took days… I backed everything I didn’t trash onto an external drive.

Thanks!

I didn’t format anything, I transferred my library from my old Imac to my new, then dumped all the files onto an external hardrive. I’m just not sure how to enter the correct path to the new location of my cleaned up library. I would like to clear my Roon files completely and start fresh…
Roon is still running fine, with a very cluttered library of files.
Thank You!

It was not clear that you are using an external disk.

For this, just click the Add Folder button, then choose the disk and optionally a folder from the list that should appear. That’s it.

If this doesn’t work, post a screenshot of what you see after clicking Add Folder.

Why is there clutter? In any case, to start fresh, you can delete the Roon database. Or for a less drastic option, go to Settings > Library > Clean up library.

But that’s somewhat unrelated to the other question.

In the first screenshot you clicked Add Folder > Add Network Share. However, if I understand you correctly, you are trying to use an external USB drive and not a network share, so this isn’t what you need.

In the second screenshot, you are in the Add Folder screen as you should be (before clicking Add Network Share). In the column on the left, under Choose Music Storage Folder, any attached external USB disks should be listed.

However, it‘s empty and this is the problem. It looks like the external disk isn’t recognized. Are you sure that the disk, the USB cable, and the USB port it’s attached to are all working? If you plug in another disk, does it show up?

(I think we can ignore the nearly identical screenshots 3 and 4, there is nothing new there)

Is this another Apple OS glitch ? - Not Apple User

Roon glitch more like looking at the picture it shows nothing at all which is odd.

What format is the external USB disc using? Is it NTFS by any chance? If so, you need to repair it by connecting it to a Windows PC, run chkdsk /f on it and then safely eject it (this is important - don’t just disconnect it by pulling the USB cable out).

FAT 32 Lacie external.

Then that should be ok, although the recommendation from Roon Labs is to use exFAT or EXT4 formats. I wonder if this is a power issue? Let’s see what @support have to say.

My external is currently hooked to my Imac. If I want to dump the Lacie, I have to hook directly to the NUCLEUS?
Sorry but I’m not well versed at this. I would think ROON would automatically see my external drive and USB stick on my Imac.

Ah - I think we all assumed that you had attached the USB drive to your Nucleus.

So, what, precisely is it you want to do? Leave it on the Mac, or attach it to the Nucleus?

The option you choose will dictate what you need to fill in in Roon’s Storage settings.

Personally, I would attach a USB drive directly to the Nucleus - then it should show up automatically, and easily be added to Roon’s Storage.

Hi @Casey_Carney,

If you intend to use this drive exclusively for Roon storage with your Nucleus, then attach it directly to the Nucleus’s USB port per @Geoff_Coupe’s suggestion.

Please let us know if you continue to experience any issues in that configuration.

Yes. I hooked up the external drive via USB, and dumped the music folders onto the Nucleus. I now have the Nucleus importing the libraries, and I also have 2 full backups, just in case. There are so many files in my library I would probably not find again unless I went to the Apple store, and maybe not even there…
Thanks for all of your help… Happy Holidays to everyone.
