There are so many things that I like about Roon, compared to the competition, that sometimes I overlook or put up with a few aspects that I don’t like or understand about Roon. Chief among these little inconveniences is having to add albums to the Library. Why? One of my favourite features is Roon Radio; a fantastic way of finding new artists with vibes similar to my mood at the time. However, having to tap the little + every 5 to 8 minutes tends to break the spell. The music sounds like a lossy file until I add the song/album to my library, then it has less distortion/more resolution and is much more holographic. What makes this experience worse is when I look at my remote - phone or tablet - and tap on the + only for it to spin continuously, which means I had already added it in the past. Then I have to quit the app and reopen it if I want to add a tag to the song (another favourite feature). By the time all of this has happened the song is at least half over. Or listening to a public playlist on one of streaming services and having to add the album from each song to my library - another mood breaker. Is it possible to have an optional auto add feature for playlists, Roon Radio etc? One has to add it to one’s library anyway, just to be able to listen to a song. I don’t even know where my library is kept; file type and size? Who knows?
I don’t think I quite understand your issue.
Why would you want to auto add every song to your library when playing Roon Radio? This will just result in a huge and messy library, imo
are you stating that the music sounds better when it’s added to library? That is 100 % wrong as it’s exactly the same file and it does not matter if it’s in your library or not.
Because you are running a local server and don’t have the hardware that’s necessary to manage 130 million tracks from a streaming service and hold all of them in the Roon library automatically so that Roon can let you do database operations on it.
Roon Radio does not need to have the tracks in the library. It is designed to play tracks from outside the library. Unless you enabled the „play only from library“ setting for Roon Radio, in which case: don’t.
This is either completely untrue or not normal
You cannot edit the library files manually, it’s a complex database. (Its location is the database folder in the Roon installation folder)
