By playing music via Roon on a Sonoro Maestro Quantum, I must set to 40 in order to have the same audio level than before a firmware update on this device.
Playing the same music and same settings, direct from Qobuz, is done with a higher level.
Where could be the problem? on Sonoro or Roon side?
Thank you for the detailed explanation. From what we can see, your Roon Core has been running RoonServer v2.55 (build 1559) — our current production version — since at least October 2nd, and no new Roon updates have been released since then.
Given that the volume behavior changed right after the firmware update on your Sonoro Maestro Quantum, and that playback level differences are not influenced by any recent Roon changes, it’s very likely that the issue originates from the device’s firmware or its handling of digital volume control after the update.
We recommend reaching out to Sonoro support to confirm whether any volume scaling or gain behavior was modified in the latest firmware.
Of course, if they confirm everything looks normal on their side, we’ll be happy to take another look together.
Thanks too for your detailed answer (as always). Perhaps it is all a bit subjective from me…
I have right done the following simple measurement:
My iPhone + dBMeter App in front of one the loudspeaker, play some rock music first with Roon and adjust the volume to measure about 50 dB. Than play the same over Qobuz connect.
I have measured between 8 and 10 dB more. The volume leveling by Roon was set to -7.7 dB.
Thus, in this case, it is not that much as I thought… I don’t quite understand why Roon apply such a (big) value for leveling. It should mean that next, another piece of music which is 7.7 db lower than that one will be played. I could sometime observe bigger leveling value. But If I hear only with Qobuz connect, I did not notice (until now) such variations.
Could you please share your current MUSE settings and a screenshot of the Audio Path?
By default, Headroom Management is set to -3 dB, but it only affects playback if it’s enabled.
To the best of our knowledge, there haven’t been any recent changes on our side related to this functionality. If something seems to have changed without any adjustments to the MUSE settings, it’s unlikely to be caused by Roon itself.
Since my last post it is clear for me that Roon works as expected. I was just a bit irritated with levelling up to -10 dB. But I have done some other tries and it seems exceptional. To answer your request, for the time being, I have nothing switched on in Muse.
Anyway, this thread can be closed. Thanks for your inputs
