Describe the issue

Hello Roon Support Team,

I'm experiencing an issue with my Roon setup where AirPlay 2 does not successfully play audio on my Marantz SR7011 receiver. Here is a summary of the troubleshooting steps I have already taken:

System Configuration:

RoonServer is installed on an Ubuntu 24.04 system with NVIDIA drivers (version 470) fully configured.
The system has been tested to confirm it can output audio locally via HDMI using ALSA.
Firewall (UFW) is disabled, and ports relevant to AirPlay (5353, 7000, and 1900) are open and listening as expected.
Network and Connectivity:

All multicast and broadcast requirements for AirPlay appear to be functioning normally, with no firewall or network blockages identified on the RoonServer's host.
iptables rules confirm an open, unrestricted configuration, and necessary ports for AirPlay are verified as open.
Playback Tests:

Audio output is functional locally when using direct ALSA commands.
Despite these configurations, Roon fails to play audio via AirPlay 2 on the Marantz SR7011, even though the device is detected and listed as available.
Could you provide guidance on resolving this AirPlay playback issue on the Marantz SR7011? Are there specific configurations or logs we should examine to further troubleshoot this?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Describe your network setup

Ubiquiti and Juniper mixed network, Truenas Storage, Marantz SR7011 + Cambidge EVO 150 (works) + DENON 8500H + DENON AVR-4500H - Roon installed on Ubuntu 24.02 VM dedicated server with dedicated passtrought Nvidia GT 710.

Hello @Luca_Maltese ,

Is there any change in behavior if you navigate to Device Setup for the zone and try to enable Compatability Mode? Or if you try to add it as an Apple Home zone? You can look over the below guide for more info:

Hi Noris,

adding it as an Apple Home zone solved AirPlay problem with FLAC, but now appear this error for Mp3
Playback failed because a required CODEC is not available.
Too many failures. Stopping playback.

Thanks a lot!

Hi All,

I solved the issue. Apologies – I hadn’t installed ffmpeg, but now that it’s installed, everything is working correctly.

Thanks a lot for the help!
