Airplay 2 not working for Sonos Era 100s after update (ref#60I44U)

· The issue affects *multiple/all* file formats.

· *Both streaming and local* *library* music are affected.

Do you encounter any playback errors with the "System Output" Zone?

· The System Output has *no problem*, it's only my other Zone.

How is the affected Zone connected to your RoonServer machine?

· Network - WiFi

Which network audio protocol is the Zone using with Roon?

· Airplay

Since this is an Airplay Zone, have you tried toggling Airplay Compatibility Mode for this Zone in the Device Setup window?

· There is no change in behavior.

Does the device show up at all in Roon Settings -> Audio?

· Yes, it shows up there, but it isn't Enabled

Does the "Enable" button unlock the Zone?

· I pressed Enable, but the Zone remains disabled

Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?

· The device has no problems with another audio source

Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?

· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains

If the device has multiple output options, do the other options work as expected?

· Only one output type is affected while the other output type works as expected

Is the device using the latest firmware as per the manufacturer?

· Firmware is up-to-date but the issue remains

Do you have an approximate timestamp of when the issue last occurred?

· The airplay stopped working in October 2024.

What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?

· Sonos Era 100 smart Speakers

Describe the issue

I Updated the roon firmware to the most recent build and the Airplay 2 continues to not work for Sonos Era 100s. Other sonos devices work over airplay after updating the roon software. The 100s can airplay from sources other than roon. This is a follow up post and I am hoping fix can be included for the next update.

Describe your network setup

Roon Core wired ethernet connection to router/modem. Sonos 100s are connected to the same network over wifi.

Two small side tests for you:

  1. If the Eras are added to your Apple home app - temporarily delete them from here
  2. Perform a factory reset on the issue Eras

I did not have the devices set as part of the apple home app. So there wasn’t anything to do there. I factory reset the eras and a power cycled my roon core. I am still encountering the same issue. I am able to stream via the sonos streaming. But I am not able to stream via airplay 2. My ultimate goal is to be able to add the devices to a group that contains multiple devices throughout my home. This includes a wiim pro plus, sonos sl 1, and a sonos roam. Any further recommendations for setup or testing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for giving that a try @Aaron_Burns. We unfortunately don’t have any additional tests for you to try at this time - we have a ticket in with development, but progress has been a bit slower in terms of reproducing the issue in house.

Thank you Noris for the update. I thought you guys left us hanging. What’s odd is one can use AirPlay directly from the phone using the app from the streaming services but for some reason it won’t work with the roon. I use a Nuc running Rock. I use Roon to allow my daily background music stream over the network throughout my home. I have a mix of speakers which I like to group together along with the Sonos Unfortunately since October 2024 that ended. Maybe try to revert that update you had back then to see if that was the issue.
