RoonServer downloads album artwork and other images from upstream sources and then serves them to all your Roon Remotes. If these images aren’t appearing (greyed out), it usually means that the RoonServer instance on the NAS cannot download them, or the Remotes cannot access them from the Server. If you have any third-party network security, please ensure RoonServer.exe is a safelist item. Updates can revert these settings to default.
Please also clear the image cache to ensure it’s not corrupt. In Roon, navigate to Settings → Setup → Clear Image cache.
As a last step, please double-check in your router settings that a reliable DNS server is assigned. This will ensure that the ROCK isn’t having issues resolving the URL addresses associated with images from Tidal. Depending on the router’s make/model, there’s usually a dedicated admin setting to assign a custom DNS server. We recommend Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).
I am able to play the music so the connection internet connection is fine. Arc is working too accessing local music on nas.
Clearing image cache didn’t work.
Since you are seeing the Metadata Improver error, it is possible that both of these issues are related.
We have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS.
Can you please give this a try and let us know if it helps?
Do you have any third-party firewalls or antivirus software installed on your RoonServer machine or elsewhere on this network? Norton and McAfee, for example, can often selectively filter out RoonServer’s connection to the internet.
Hi Connor,
Once I saw the meta data errors I restarted the server. I didn’t think of restating originally as we had just recently had an update. All is good now. That’s for the support. I think it was a mixture of a new sky modem and the latest update.
