I would have been 9 ![]()
Hello @Nick,
The 20 volumes you uploaded to the drive were identified immediately and displayed with the Compass cover, so we weren’t able to reproduce the issue on our end — which is crucial for identifying a possible fix.
Could you kindly upload a few of the problematic albums to the same link you shared earlier?
@vadim if you look at the top screenshot you posted, the album hasn’t been identified.
The only way to get this boxset to identify in Roon is to merge all 20 volumes (60 CDs) into one, disable multi-part under editing and then it’ll identify as the full boxset.
I concur with @Nick that when I initially imported my boxset that I had the 20 volumes individually show and with the correct covers as per the link @Nick posted a few posts back. After a few days the individual albums arts went weird.
I recall these were glitchy and would show during scrolling but not remain visible reliably.
I removed the boxset from Roon due to the issues.
I believe these were inputted into MusicBrainz as individual Volumes but for some unknown reason have been removed or are incomplete.
I was able to get identified, but using “Identify Album” manually. They did not get automatically matched, but I also did not need to merge them.
I’ll take another look at this later on today.
I downloaded the individual cover art and placed them in each Vol folder.

Hi @Nick,
We spoke to our developers and they asked us to relay these questions to help with the investigation:
For the “Enjoying the Ride” box set, have you identified each separate volume in Roon? If so, was that identification automatic or done manually?
Also, can you confirm that all the files across every volume or disc of the box set share the same album title, and that the disc numbers are correct? This will help us determine how Roon is interpreting and grouping the set.
Yes. Manually.
I have each volume in its own folder and the names of the folders are not the same. The discs are numbered 1-60 correctly and Roon manual identification had no issue with this. The album name in the metadata is different for each volume. For example: “Enjoying the Ride Vol. 17: Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, CA (12-27-89)” In that case (and probably all the others), the metadata album title matched the title from Roon.
Note that I did not have any issue with the identification, even though it was manual. The only issue was the rendering of the art. I have since manually added the art I linked above, but it is a strange problem…
Hi @Nick,
Thanks for the confirmation. It sounds like Roon’s successfully identified all 60 CDs in that case. We’re taking a closer look internally with our QA team to see how the GUI itself is responding to the artwork logic. We’ll respond with more information shortly.

Hi @Nick,
Could we get a copy of your database experiencing this issue? It’ll help our team hone in on reproduction of the issue, which hasn’t been successful yet.
- Zip up your
RoonBackupsfolder (right-click it and select “Compress…”): - Submit the .zip file to us through our Database Upload Portal
Thank you!
Hi @Nick,
We wanted to bring this case to a firm and decisive conclusion and detail the next steps. Thank you again for your patience.
For the smoothest metadata handling, Roon would require all 60 CDs to be labelled Disc 1 through Disc 60 and embedded within a single folder for Enjoying the Ride. That is conspicuously against the grain for most Deadhead curation and it’s understandable you’d rather Roon consider these CDs as individual releases (with accompanying artwork from the CD).
However, without Tivo or Musicbrainz data at the per-album level, Roon has no automatic mechanism by which to identify all 60 CDs individually.
It sounds like you’ve taken the time to correct this treatment with manual edits. On our side, this case provides evidence for improving client-level artwork treatment with boxed sets overall. We’re putting in an investigative ticket to see what we can change, but this effort may take some time to mature.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Please let us know if we can answer any further questions in the meantime.
