Describe the issue

Allmusic track picks missing for some library albums. The image shows 2 albums purchased from Qobuz. The left side shows the library version of the albums and the right side the Qobuz version. The library versions are both indentified and the Qobuz versions are listed under versions. The library version of 'Gaucho' does have the allmusic track picks but 'The Royal Scam' does not. Why? I have other instances in my library where this occurs.

Royal Scam isn’t showing track picks for me, either.

Hello @Meldrew61

Thank you for reaching Roon support.

It might be helpful to have the file(s) for testing on our end as well, can please upload them here and let us know?

Hello Vadim, I have uploaded the files purchased from Qobuz for the Steely Dan album The Royal Scam (2025 Remaster). This is the album with no allmusic track picks. Did you want the Gaucho album too?

Hello @Meldrew61,

Thank you for uploading the files — that was very helpful.

We’ve taken a closer look and it appears that your downloaded version of The Royal Scam (2025 Remaster) is currently being matched to a different edition than the one that contains the AllMusic track picks. This can occasionally happen when multiple releases share similar metadata.

For now, the best workaround is to use the Manual Identification wizard in Roon and select an alternative edition of the album (for example, the earlier release). That should restore the expected track pick information.

We’ve also opened an internal ticket to review the equivalence for this release so it can be handled correctly going forward.

Please let us know if choosing a different edition resolves it on your end.

Hello Vadim, The library version that was downloaded from Qobuz has the Qobuz version (that has track picks) listed as an alternative version so doesn’t that mean the library version matches with that Qobuz version and hence should have the track picks too? Otherwise why would it be in listed with the versions of this album (see attached photo). There is no other version of this album to identify with.

It does for me. I purchased the 24/192 Royal Scam from Qobuz and it is showing the picks correctly.

See…

I changed it to the second match in the manual identification process and now it shows track picks. That should not happen, really. The track lengths are all the same in each, and it is definitely showing the same TiVo capsule review in each case.

Hello, Can you both let me which country version of Qobuz you are using. When I go to indentify there is only one version of the album for me to select. Also do either of you use Tidal?

Hello @Meldrew61 ,

We have an investigation ticket with the team regarding this issue. The solution in the meantime would be to choose another version, but since it seems like the different version is not showing up on your end, we will have to wait for the investigation ticket to be completed. This may take some time, so thank you in advance for your patience while this takes place.

Okay, thanks. I think this must be a general identification problem which might resolve other issues I have with unidentifed albums. Hopefully a resolution with be found.

I don’t use Tidal. And I am US Qobuz.

Hello @Meldrew61

Thank you for the update. As I mentioned earlier, we already have a ticket to correct this behaviour in the product. Currently, we have a WA to identify the album as the older version manually.

The WA does not work for me. DDPS mentions a second match. I only see one version, the CD version, and selecting that one (with one track not having the matching length) still does not give the track picks. The album is ‘identified’ but to what? I also have ~60 unidentified 24bit downloaded albums out of ~5500. Most are Qobuz downloads with some from HDTracks and Highresaudio. Nothing I have tried has manged to get them identified. Is there a document that describes in reasonable detail the matching algorithm? What is used and what has precedence? Filenames, file properties (eg hash), tags, tracks properties (length) etc…I have trawled previous community threads with no luck. As an ex-software developer some sort of diagram showing the process would be helpful.

Hi @Meldrew61,

My apologies if this has been glazed over, but have you fully removed the album, performed a library clean-up, and attempted to manually reimport it to see if you’re able to match it to the correct 1999 version?

Let me know if this changes the behavior at all - thank you! :+1:

I have done that. It is the first thing I try when an album doesn’t identify properly. The Steely Dan album ‘The Royal Scam (2025 Remaster)’ is identified and the equivalent Qobuz version is listed as an alternative version to my library version, purchased from Qobuz, but no track picks for mine though the Qobuz version does have them. I tried re-identifying the album but the Qobuz version doesn’t appear in the 7 possible versions available to select. How’s that possible? Roon has identified my library version with the Qobuz version but the Qobuz version is not in the list of possible versions! I have been slowly going through my unidentified albums, some I have managed to fix but others refuse to be. I understand that Roon relies on external sources for this task MusicBrainz being one of them. I have found that some of my Qobuz purchases are not in these databases so they are not identified and hence not identifed with the Qobuz version. Surely as a subscriber to Qobuz an album not in the external music databases should at least identify with the Qobuz version. As I said some more detailed insight into the identification algorithm would help people resolve unidentified albums.

I guess the question I have is why is my identically purchased version from Qobuz, identifying correctly with the picks, as I’ve shown above.

Hey @Meldrew61,

Thanks for the update! Just to triple confirm - when you manually re-identify the album, you don’t see the following 1999 version:

We just ran through the process again on our end, and when selecting this version, the track picks appear properly.

Let me know, thank you! :folded_hands:

Yes, this fixes it. Thanks.

Hello @Meldrew61 ,

Glad to hear that manually selecting the 1999 version resolved this on your end. As mentioned earlier, we have a ticket in with the team to see if we can make a more permenant fix, but this will likely take some time to make its way through the queue. Since the issue is resolved on your end, I’ll go ahead and mark the therad for closure. Thanks again for bringing this issue to our attention!
