I have an older Acer laptop and have encountered the almost eternally slow artwork loading issue - typically when there is a Windows or Roon update. Also I might get just a Red Cross when starting Roon after an update. I have invariably solved this by finding the Visual Effects system settings form and switching it from whatever it is set to to a different setting - eg from “Let Windows choose …” to “Adjust for best performance”. Then reboot. Sometimes I’ve needed to flip the setting and reboot a couple or so times, but invariably artwork eventually loads fine. Don’t ask me why.
