I’m working on a second system on the site, my Roon server is in my apartment and I intend to keep it there. So I’m using ARC to play music here on the site.
I brought the main transport here (opticalrendu) and I’m really enjoying it, but the connection is made via AirPlay which we know is not ideal because the audio goes through the cell phone before going to the transport. I would like to know if there is an alternative like DLNA to use with ARC.
ARC doesn’t speak DLNA. You can connect the phone by USB to a DAC.
On Apple devices this generally works out of the box (although at the moment some people report that on iOS 18 the regular Roon app currently resamples hi-res to 44.1/16 with attached DACs; I don’t have that though, and I don’t know if it’s an issue with ARC at all).
On Android you need to enable the Beta driver in ARC and it may or may not work with a given DAC (see discussions).
This option is interesting, I hadn’t thought of it, but the downside is having to keep the cell phone (controller) tied to it. And in my case, the cell phone won’t be a better means of transportation than the Opticalrendu.
