Thanks for advice. I did that. First Login, no problem. Immediate connection stands. Second and all further Logins: have to manually activate server map. But… it’s ok with me now. Don’t want to put more time into this. Its 2 clicks more than I’d prefer, but can’t have it all…
Hey @Jeroen_Jacobs,
Thanks for writing in! We agree it’s an odd issue you have - selecting ‘Launch at startup’ should rid you of the issues you’ve presented.
Do you have any other applications that successfully launch at startup, outside of Roon?
Understood! One last thing to check would be your Mac firewall - if you temporarily disable it and attempt a reboot with Launch at start-up selected, does Roon Server start properly?
Hi,
Yes it absoutely makes sense to set server to “lauch at startup”. And I agree: it should work like that. I did - as you suggested - several attempts with different firewall settings, turning it off completely and also disabling stealth mode. The one attempt with disabled stealth mode got me started successfully after re-boot, without having to manually activate server! So I thought: finally the cause is found. However… the second attempt after re-boot was no success. So, after about 7 attempts only one automatically started the server. In all other cases I had to manually activate. See below a screenshot of my firewall settings (usual setting).
PS: I do want to give it one more try with a wired connection later on. (need another hub).
Hi @Jeroen_Jacobs ,
Can you please confirm how you install Roon Server on this Mac? Did you drag-and-drop the Roon app into your applications folder? It almost sounds like you are trying to start Roon from the .DMG directly, and it was not properly installed on the Mac.
I did drag the Roon app into the applications folder. I now did it again and “replaced” it with a new downloaded version. To no avail. Still the same problem. I always get the message “waiting for your Roon Server…” then have to manually activate. Then can listen.
Hi @Jeroen_Jacobs ,
Can you please try to create a database backup, clear out your old Roon installation and then see if this helps? I have provided instructions below:
Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:
- Create a Backup of your current database
- Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
- Navigate to your Roon Database Location
- Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
- Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
- Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
- Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup
- Restore backup
Hi,
Ok, makes sense. Thanks very much for the steps provided. I will do this when I find the time to give it another try.
Best Regards,
JJ
I did what you proposed. Exactly the same thing happened after renaming to old and installing from scratch (new download). I then even used a cleaning program to really remove everything and tried once more. Still looking for server after starting the app. So I then have to look for package content again and manually start the server. Well, we gave it a good try.
I suspect some external thing (perhaps my provider) that I can’t influence.
Regards,
JJ
Hi @Jeroen_Jacobs,
I think you’re on the right path with your above statements - it’s curious you were able to achieve normal operation after disabling stealth mode within the machine. Perhaps changing another setting, like moving from wifi to ethernet etc- can sometimes re-enable stealth mode silently.
Yes after disabling Stealth Mode I was able to log in once successfully. 2nd time etc. failed.
I still didn’t test with a cabled connection though. Will report on that. Thanks for helping so far.
