How has it changed?

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for the detailed reports, and a special thanks to @Giles_W and @Frank_M for pinpointing what’s going on. This has been a big help.

We’ve confirmed the cause of the crashing, and our development team is already working on a fix. In the meantime there’s a simple workaround that resolves the crashes for most people.

Workaround: enable Notifications for the Roon app on Android

The crashing occurs when the Notifications permission was declined after the 2.70 update. To restore it:

  1. On your Android device, open Settings → Apps.
  2. Select Roon.
  3. Tap Notifications and toggle Allow notifications on.
  4. Fully close and reopen the Roon app.
(Alternatively, long-press the Roon icon → App info → Notifications → Allow.)

After re-enabling notifications and restarting, the app should stop crashing and closing on its own.

On the scrolling stutter: a few of you have noted that enabling notifications stops the crashes but scrolling still isn’t smooth. That’s a separate issue, and Stephen already has performance improvements in the works to address it, we’ll roll those out as soon as they’re tested.

Thanks again for your patience and for helping us track this down. :folded_hands:

The app logo / font looks smaller. Almost like it was optimized for a differentOS

If it is possible, could you provide screenshots of before and after?

· I just updated, and my android app crashes immediately and constantly. I restarted my Samsung S25 Ultra with no improvement.

Same here, i also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no joy. Edit: S25 Ultra, also. App minimizes, crashes, but leaves a “partial” process that needs to be killed…??

Same here on S26 ultra.

I have a fixed submitted internal for this issue.

If “do not allow notifications” is selected after reinstall, the app crashes. You must allow notifications. Hopefully, a fix is coming soon.

The fix has been tested and approved by QA. I’m not sure how soon we’ll have the fix released, but hopefully soon. I’ll post here when I have an update.

· For about a week or so the application on my Samsung Ultra 24 crashes after about ten seconds every time I open it. Any help would be appreciated.

· I have a VPN I've had for years and roon has always worked besides the Roon app is setup to bypassed the VPN.

We also have an Orbi 870 mesh and it has always worked with these devices as well.

You sure it’s not just since the last update from yesterday?

Thank you for your quick response as well as the link to the ahead regarding the Android issue.

I have two instances of Roon that I use. One on my Android phone and one in a tablet. The phone has been having this crashing issue for about a week and the tablet just started having this same issue tonight?

I’ll read the thread you provided. I appreciate that, thank you.

**Description of Issue**
After the latest Roon Android app update, three separate Android devices now close/crash roughly 1 minute after opening the app: a Samsung phone, a Samsung tablet, and a Redmi tablet. A fourth Android tablet (Allo) stays open normally.

Troubleshooting already done:
- Cleared app cache and storage on affected devices
- Force-stopped and reopened
- Fully uninstalled and reinstalled the app

None of the above resolved it. The crash is consistent across all three affected devices, all on the same network as the Core, so this doesn't appear to be network-related.

Any insight into what's causing this or a known fix would be appreciated.

Why doesn’t roon just roll back to the previous version?

I’m having the same issue on my Pixel 8 after the latest/july update. Remote just won’t load. Looks like it is trying and then quits. Reinstalled the app from the app store, gave permission for notifications. Cleared the cache, and the storage. Checked the build numbers matched. Still not working. Works fine on the computer that I have my core. All of my Roon remotes have the same issue. Have gotten spoiled over the years, because I never have a propblem. Hope you fix it soon. Pretty inconvenient.

As you are aware as I see you posted there…
