Android app freezes when opened from background (ref#IMBHSH)

Describe the issue

An old issue is back: my Android app freezes everytime it is open in the background and I open the app again. A blank screen is the result. Albums on 0 of 2814 and app is completely unresponsive. Closing and opening again is the only remedy.

Fritzbox, Asus ZenWifi pro xt12, all wired, Intel nuc 8/i5,..

You may want to mention what Android device you’re using and the version it’s running.

Thanks! My phone is a Pixel 9 Pro XL on Android 15, newest version.

Ah, a Pixel device.

I believe some of these issues go back as far as the 7.

When I used my Android device with Roon, I had similar issues amongst others. It was explained to me by one of Roon’s devs that’s it’s possibly related to the power management/handling in standby. Some manufacturers tweak Android. Being more stock like my phone it might be something that won’t get fixed permanently.

A quick search shows several threads with tickets in and investigating.

That also explains my remark of it being an old issue… I had a Pixel 7 before my current 9. Well, just have to stay put then and wait for a future solution. Or a new phone :joy:

I’ve activated diagnostics for your Pixel, so next time you use the Roon app on it, it should deliver a log set to our servers for review. Can you please let us know when you have a chance to use it next sot that we can check for the log report? Thanks!

Thanks @noris! I will let you know when I encounter the empty albumlist and freezing of the app.

Thanks for the timestamps and screenshots. I sent a diagnostics request to your phone but it didn’t go through. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

The latest logfile is of 4 hours ago, so the freezing won’t be on this…
Is there a way to force a logfile to be made?

Log files are automatically created as you use Roon. So there should be current logs if you have been using your android device.

Oh I should have been more clear. We were trying to get the Roon logs from your android device that is having the freezes.

@daniel Oh, ok. But in the instructions is no mention of Android and how to get the logfiles?

If you can let me know how to get logfiles of my Android phone, I will do that tomorrow. Logging off now for a good night. Thanks!

It looks like your Android log files reached our servers, so there is no need to try to manually get further logs. We’ll look over the logs with the team and let you know once we have their analysis on them, thanks in advance for your patience!

We’ve pinned down the relevant event in diagnostic logs from the Roon client on the Android. Please let us know if you encounter another event, as it’s most useful to compare logs between these particular freezes.

We should have additional information shortly. From our initial investigation, the problem lies with network discovery requests that take an unusually long amount of time to retry, but we’ll have a firm answer soon.
