Description Of Issue

This used to work just fine, but haven’t tried it for a while. Nothing has changed with the Wifi, or any of the hardware. I am using the latest version of the android app. As soon as I launch, it comes up with the correct Roon Core (this PC) and then proceeds to try and connect. However, the small amber light remains amber and momentarily flashes red as it is unable to connect and then keeps trying. I’ve tried reinstalling the app. Nothing has been changed on the firewall. Somewhat at a loss as to why.

Any help appreciated.

A post was split to a new topic: Android app not connecting to my Core

Thanks, I tried that and it didn’t work. Not sure why this isn’t working anymore.

Hi @Stu_Whisson,

Can you confirm what router you’re using?

Are other remote devices able to connect?

Hi Dylan

I’m using a BT business router, same router that roon was using previously without any changes. Other devices can connect via wifi to this PC and router successfully both of 2.4 and 5ghz.

Stu

Hi @Stu_Whisson,

Can you verify that the Android device can see the Core machine over the network by use a network scanning app like Fing?

It can see the pc in that IP 192.168.1.99, but I dont see anything else on that IP.

Thanks, @Stu_Whisson.

If you try to connect directly using the IP does that help?

There is no option to connect to an IP within the Roon app on my phone.

For the record the roon app doesn’t connect on any of my devices - tablet or phone.

Hi @Stu_Whisson,

Just to verify, this works fine on the Core machine itself but on any remote connected to the network it does not work?

Can you share a screenshot of Settings > Setup from the Core?

That is correct. On Roon on my PC, using the core that the software setup, it works fine. However, connecting any of the remote apps to this Roon core simply doesn’t happen. The app sees the Roon core on the PC, but is unable to connect.

I’ve attached some screen shots of the settings of the Roon Windows Software.

Hi @Stu_Whisson — Can you try turning off the Accept Remotes option and turning it back on? Does that change anything?

That was one of the first things I tried. I’ve even tried renaming the pc in the settings too.

Thanks for confirming, @Stu_Whisson.

I have enabled diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here. The next time your Core is active a diagnostics report will automatically be generated and uploaded directly to our servers

Once that’s been received, I’ll be sure to update this thread and pass the diagnostics over to the team for further analysis.

Hi @Stu_Whisson,

Apologies for the delay here. I reviewed the diagnostics report from the Core machine with the technical team. We are seeing some networking issues in the report, but we aren’t seeing any trace of the remote devices — They don’t appear to be showing up at all.

Can you confirm that these devices are on the same subnet?

Do you have another machine you can temporarily use as your Core on the same network?

Hi there,

Here’s what I’ve tried to do:

1 - completely reset the network settings on the PC (StuPC)
2 - resetting the router (BT Business Router)
3 - downloaded and installed on laptop PC
4 - deathorised StuPC and enabled on Laptop PC
5 - Android Samsung 10+ connected using Roon App

6 - Uninstalled the Roon app on the StuPC (deleted app and database)
7 - restarted StuPC
8 - installed Roon on StuPC and deathorised LaptopPC
9 - Android Samsung 10+ could not connect to the Core on StuPC

Looking at the photo. You will see both cores. One is the latop which it can connect to. The other is the StuPC, where I need it connecting to (where all my media is) and where it connected fine previously a while back. However, you can see that it is unable to connect to the Roon core on StuPC.

Completely struggling as to why this is. !

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had an update? As it has been 2 weeks since I provided the above information. At the moment, I’m unable to use Roon as intended.

Stu

Hi @Stu_Whisson,

Apologies for the delay here. So based on the tests we’ve confirmed that the Android device is able to connect to the laptop PC with no problems, but not StuPC. Moving forward, we need to understand what makes StuPC different from the laptop:

  1. Is there any difference in how these two PCs are connected to the network? If you connect StuPC in the same exact way as the laptop is there any change?
  2. Does StuPC have any firewall or antivirus software running that the laptop does not have? If so, can you try disabling that software and let us know if it results in any change?
