Android App Permission Concerns

Hi,

Does anyone know why the Roon Remote app, on Android, wants to read my contacts?
It seems an odd requirement for an app of this type…

Thanks,
J

Hmm, is it safe to assume that none of the 35 people who viewed this post are using the android app?

The Roon Remote app on Android uses the following permissions:

android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
android.permission.BROADCAST_STICKY
android.permission.INTERNET
android.permission.MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS
android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
android.permission.READ_PROFILE
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

Both the READ_PROFILE and READ_CONTACTS permissions are required to read the device user’s profile information. We use your profile user name to politely greet you in the Roon UI and these permissions are required to get it.

Thanks for the reply.

I’m still not convinced an app that isn’t intended for social interaction, I.e sending messages etc, is justified in asking for this level of access.

I use several other music/remote apps that do not require this permission despite offering similar functionality to the Roon app;

JRemote
Gizmo
Yatse
Kodi
Kore
Sonos
Spotify
Tidal
