A project I started recently frustrated me only thinking about it. But first success is showing up.
Short background info.
- Latest Roon server on Synology NAS with DSM 7.4 (no universal USB/Bluetooth support)
- eversolo DMP-A6 media player/DAC (Roon Ready)
- Denon X7200WA AVR (not Roon Ready)
- Apple iPad with roon client
That’s all about the devices. And I simply wanted to integrate some (BT) remote dial without spending hundreds of bucks or adding another (hot running) device. And being able to control volume directly on the X7200WA (analog). And maybe some more.

The NAS doesn’t provide any USB driver support for such things anymore. A VM may be a workaround for this but would increase RAM and CPU load which would be a bit too much for the Xeon together with 6 channel DSD and pot. FIR DSP/MUSE.

The roon client on the iPad is pretty nice but a bit too mighty just for basic player functions like play/pause, next/previous and volume control.

Remote should have a dial and some button controls. Remote dials seem to be rather exotic nowadays. Some are WiFi remotes with rather high battery draining. Some have built-in batteries with USB charging. Nothing I was looking for. So, I found the Razer Wireless Remote Pod. This should be the first remote to try.
The only way I found to connect this remote was via the A6. And the A6 can control Roon since it’s Roon Ready.
So, I tried some things, together with MacroDroid for Android. And my first success today was actually controlling the X7200WA’s own volume from the remote via the A6.
It’s just a beginning, and I do not know where it will end. Maybe the A6 could become some kind of Roon remote hub. And what is possible with the A6 may be feasible with other Android based devices as well.
So, if some are interested, I could share some concrete steps and experiences.
