Android tablet trouble connecting

Core Machine (Operating system/System info/Roon build number)
Nucleus

Network Details (Including networking gear model/manufacturer and if on WiFi/Ethernet)
Asus RT-AC5300 router connected to Asus RT-AC68U configured as AI Mesh. The RT-AC68U is connected via cat 5e to the RT-AC5300 through a Netgear GS308 switch. My Nucleus and Simaudio Moon 380D DAC are both connected to another Netgear GS308 switch, which is then connected to the RT-AC68U. I have multicast DNS enabled, and IGMP snooping disabled.

Description Of Issue
Frequently, after starting my Android (v9, kernel 3.18.115-16530048) Samsung Galaxy Tab S3, or after the screen is off, the Roon app is either slow to connect to my Nucleus, or connects, but, instead of showing the album details, show only a blank screen. I’ll upload a log, when I figure out how, but it appears when it is taking a long time to connect, a connection is being refused (although I cannot tell who is refusing):

03/06 00:55:04 Warn: [rnet/RnetJsonClient] failed to connect Connection refused 192.168.1.23:41601
03/06 00:55:04 Trace: [raatserver] [RaatServer SM-T820 @ 192.168.1.23:41601] client connection failed. Retrying in 500ms

In other cases, it seems the connection between the tablet and Nucleus is lost for too long, so the connection is dropped:

03/06 01:16:09 Trace: [rnet/RnetJsonClient] no data received for >10000ms.

Killing connection.
In this case, the tablet screen was off for ~ 10 minutes. When I re-open Roon, the information at the bottom updates showing the song playing, but the main section of the screen with the album details is blank. If I click on the album icon at the bottom (current song playing), a modal showing the album pops up. I can click on the album title, and then the whole page refreshes with the full album details. That appears to be reflected in the log like this:

03/06 02:04:50 Trace: [music/query] performing album query

The problem seems to occur whether the tablet is connected via 2.4GHz or 5GHz wifi, and whether connected to the AC5300 or AC68U router. I have tried disabling all sleep modes for the Roon app on the tablet, but you can never really know for sure.

I can get music playing, so this is more a matter of frustration - right when I want to pause or change music, I sometimes end up having to kill the app, and restart it so it will reconnect. Any help would be appreciated. I’ll see if I can attach a log.

Thank you,
Jason Henry

I can’t figure out how to attach a log. Do I need someone in support to supply a link?

Hi @Jason_Henry1,

Is there any change in behavior if you try enabling IGMP Snooping and/or IGMP Proxying? These settings have helped with Android connection issues in the past.

This network setup does seem quite complex, and my suggestion here would be to try to simplify and connect both the Nucleus and Android phone to the primary router as a test to see if the behavior still occurs with the switches temporarily out of the equation.

Sure, I can send you a link on where to upload the log via private message, but snippets you provided are already helpful enough for now.

Is this the only Roon Remote you have in your setup? If you have any other Roon Remotes, do they exhibit the same issue?
