why roon shows two instances of local Flac when it should show the Tidal version and the local Flac version (ref the screen shots above)?

I think that screenshot shows that you are telling Roon to add your FLAC content twice to your library.

In your setup, the “Music Folder” is already a shortcut to “This PC > C: > Users > Chris > Music”. This will include all the folders below it, including the FLAC folder. So you shouldn’t add the path to the FLAC folder a second time.

Interesting, where does it say that the “Music Folder” resolves to the C>USERS>CURRENTUSER>MUSIC folder? I don’t have mine enabled, but enabled it and hit edit and the path wasn’t visible. I realize that path might be true on Windows10, but not on 7 or Vista or (Yikes!) XP… not to mention Mac and Linux.

It says so in the KB, and this is the default.

Regardless of mapping multiple paths to the same content - it is still an annoyance that the exact same content gets added twice. I would consider this to be a bug as there is no benefit to adding the same exact content twice.
