Any thoughts of adding a Podcast section?

@Allan_A_Barr - if you haven’t already done so, I suggest you add your vote here:

If it is important to you, please vote for it by using the Vote button ( the “up arrow” icon) on the left of the Topic title. Thank you.

…services used by music enthusiasts. How can these be described as something for a select few, when adding podcasts to a music player is not, baffles me.

And a rant, with irrelevant references to price and fabricated metrics, doesn’t convince me, and quite possibly others, to change our mind.

As already mentioned, add your vote and the case for integrating podcasts into Roon in the relevant feature suggestion. We already know that the likes of Spotify, Apple, YouTube, and Amazon have little interest in integrating with Roon (and Roon seeks deeper integration than other music players do), so what services could be used?

I hope never.. Please don’t dilute the music listening and exploring experience with podcasts, audio books and other irrelevant subjects which takes time and effort to develop, support and maintain.
Get the basics done right rather!

I second (or third, or however many) that thought. There are SO MANY podcast playing options out there that I can’t see why people would want this capability in Roon. Is it that hard to switch podcast apps on your device(s) to hear what you want to hear? The only way I can see this being a direction for Roon is for people who want to play podcasts in a single or multiple zones. Frankly, you could use Bluetooth heaphones and accomplish the same thing, and the podcast app will be solid.

I’m rather baffled at this request of Roon. If you can explain why this is a development direction to me, I’m all ears. Personally, I’d much rather Roon develop a Linux GUI first.

I think it may be more about library management than playback, but maybe not. Even those who have a positive view haven’t really defined the what and why. A +1 or “I want this” isn’t compelling justification.

Roon is a music player not an audio book or podcast player, and I wouldn’t want that diluted with additional media functionality.

For those wanting library management for podcasts, should read the top of the thread where practical solutions are discussed.

I use Roon to listen to music in my living room, but also as a powerful multi-room solution with four endpoints. This allows me to go anywhere in my place and continue to listen to the radio or music. I’d like podcasts to be integrated for this reason. Currently, except for Roon, I have looked and haven’t found other solutions.

Spotify has a very robust podcast catalog. A potential workaround is that many streamers that support Roon also support Spotify Connect, which allows you to switch between endpoints using the Spotify app. However, the Spotify Connect feature requires a Premium tier subscription.

For ethical reasons, I no longer want to use Spotify (among streaming solutions, they are the ones who pay artists the least), I only use Qobuz.

And you’ll agree that it would still be much simpler to have a single solution that allows managing all multi-room uses.

Spotify podcast support is terrible IMO. None of the podcasts I listen too (all music) are on there and there is no way to add them via the podcast’s RSS feed.
