Describe the issue

I have to delete and reinstall the app on my IPhone 13 every 2-7 days. It’s getting slightly better with each new update but very slowly. My phone freezes (still very hot though) and the app keeps shutting down. I delete and reinstall and it works like a dream for a couple of days and the problem is back.
The Roon server is located on my son’s computer.
He moved from home so at the moment I’m can’t use Roon just Roon Arc.
I’m very eager to have this solved because Roon Arc is outstanding when it works and I’m willing to have some patience !

Describe your network setup

I have to check that later with my son as the server is on his computer and network

The problem was the same on my home network before the server moved away ! More to do with IPhones in particular or the app ?

Hello @Robert_Lidstrom,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.

Could you kindly clarify whether the Smart Download feature is enabled? Additionally, are you downloading anything in the background during playback?

No I rarely use Smart Downloads.Just tested it a couple of times.

Hello @Robert_Lidstrom

I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

Yes I will do that. Might take a couple of days as I reinstalled the app last night.

Hello @Robert_Lidstrom,

We are waiting for future updates.

The router is as shown below and the fiber is 1000/1000

Hello @Robert_Lidstrom,

Thank you for the update.

Based on the router description, it doesn’t appear to have a direct fiber input, so there should be an additional device in front of it. Could you please confirm whether it’s a standard media converter or a smart device that might have its own DHCP, port forwarding, or other network-related functions?

This information will help us better understand the network setup and assist you more effectively.

Actually this is the router being used. Not sure there is a difference?
It is connected to a fiber socket and to the computer. No devices in between.

Hello @Robert_Lidstrom,

Thank you for the update. Based on the photo and description on the Asus page, the following router does not have a Fiber socket, only Ethernet ports.

A misunderstanding on my behalf.
We use a Ethernet cable to the fiber socket in the wall and also between the router and the computer.
I didn’t know about the fiber sockets in a router.

Kind regards
Robert

Hi @Robert_Lidstrom,

Will your iOS device eventually be able to reconnect with your server over the same network again? You’ll need to sync with your server every so often in order for normal functionality.

If the server machine is going to permanently be at a different residence and network, your long-term solution will likely be to set up another server connecting to your home network. We’d be happy to assist you here.

OK I understand the advantage with having the server close to the phone.
But the problem is that when that was the case from launch of Arc to January 2025 I had huge problems who slightly got better along the way.
So perhaps a part of the solution but not the complete answer.
To this point 4 days since last reinstallment Arc is still up and running.
That’s a little bit longer than usual.
Could the fact that the computer starts and shuts down every day cause a problem ?

Hey @Robert_Lidstrom,

Thanks for getting back to us. If your Roon Server is permanently located somewhere else and the computer it runs on shuts down daily, that could definitely be contributing to the connection issues you’re seeing with ARC.

Unfortunately, this kind of setup isn’t ideal for long-term ARC use. Even when using ARC in offline mode, it will still need to reconnect to your server from time to time to keep things working properly.

The app stopped working just a few minutes ago.
9 pm here in Sweden
It freezed and then shut down.

Hello @Robert_Lidstrom ,

Thanks for letting us know. I was able to retrieve the diagnostics from your device and it looks like your device got an out-of-memory exception that appears to be related to the play queue. Can you confirm if you were doing anything right before the crash? Did you queue up a lot of tracks that are the same type, or a specific playlist?

It could have been a queue with 55 tracks.
I tried again just a few minutes ago with a queue with 280 tracks and it crashed after a few seconds. Also tried just one album and the app freezed immediately but kept playing for some thirty seconds. Perhaps these crashes are due to the first crash ?
Kind regards
Robert

Hi @Robert_Lidstrom ,

Thanks for letting us know. I’ve put in a ticket for review with the team, I will let you know once I have their feedback regarding this behavior. Thanks in advance for your patience as this takes place.

Hi @Robert_Lidstrom,

Do you experience any warnings in the ARC user interface concerning the phone’s thermal state? Can you please additionally share a current screenshot of the ARC Settings page including the Storage/Memory details?

Thanks!
