Apple App to show the bit rate on my DAC when I use Roon

I’m looking for an app that will show the bit rate on my DAC when I use Roon to play music. Any thoughts?

I have 24/192 set on the MIDI app, and would love for my DAC to show the actual bitrate.

Thanks!

Roon has the signal path feature.

I mean can I see on my DAC. I know about Roon signal path.

The signal path shows exactly what Roon sends to the DAC, which is based on what the DAC advertises as its capabilities (or what you manually configured in the Roon settings).

If the DAC does some internal resampling (and many do) after it receives the data, then the only app that could theoretically show you this is the DAC‘s accompanying app, if there is one. Though in many cases these don’t show you everything that’s happening, either.

On a Mac, you have to use the MIDI app to “set” bitrate. If I set to 24/192, then all music shows as that on my DAC. I just wanted to see if there was a way for my DAC to show actual bit rate…

If the dac has no readout display then no you can’t. An app can’t connect to it to get this info unless the dac has been designed to do so. RME has an app that can display stuff but this is a pro kit. Hifi DACs don’t have this stuff it’s on the display as a readout or with different colour lights.

Doesn’t that just set it as a fixed rate? You need exclusive mode on in Roon as well to make it switch the output automatically?

My DAC does have a digital read out. Because I have to set the midi control in Mac at 192, the deck display always shows 192 no matter what the actual bit rate of the music being played is. When I’m looking for is an app that will cause the deck display to accurately display the bit rate of the music.

There because you’re not using exclusive mode. With exclusive mode Roon can control the rate sent to the dac. It bypasses the midi output. Are you using the correct output on the Mac in Roon?

Here is my Fiio M11 Plus using core Audio output that has the dac showing up in Roon. Enabling exclusive will enable sample rate switchig and bypass system audio overrides which is the midi setting.

THANK YOU!! That did it. Is there any disadvantage to using exclusive mode?

Depends on how you see it. It’s exclusive control for Roon, so the OS can’t play sounds like notifications, phone, or similar. May or may not be what you want.

Works perfectly well. I don’t care about other sounds while I’m listening to music. Thanks again.
