Apple Lossless album missing from library

Went to see a band I like last night, and went to listen to a record I have on my hard drive. I doesn’t show up in Roon.

Roon is pointed at the right folder and works fine otherwise. The missing album is in Apple Lossless, just like 99% of my other music. Any idea how to fix? Thanks in advance.

Latest version of Roon running on a 2018 Mac Mini with latest version of MacOS. Music library stored on an external USB drive. Burned library has ~24k songs.

@Israel_Smith, when you go to the Roon Home page, how many albums and tracks does Roon list at the top of the page? Does this match what you are expecting?

If not, can you post a screenshot of your Roon Settings → Storage path?

What’s the exact format and do you have skipped files? It could have an m4a extension but no ALAC inside.

Thanks. The track count more or less matches. Odd that this one record - as far as I know - is missing. It’s got the same .m4a suffix as just about everything else.

Just checked file type using Mac get info. All the tracks by this artist (Kishi Bashi) are mpeg 4 Apple Lossless. Turns out two albums on my drive are not being seen by Roon.

I tried quitting Roon, deleting the albums from my scanned folder, than adding them back and opening Roon again. Still missing.

These albums don’t show up when I check “skipped files,” and they play file in Apple Music on my Mac. I only ever use Apple Music to add the very occasional physical CD to my library.

All thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

When you add them, they are not listed in Home > Recently Added either?

They are not.

Strange. You could use an audio converter and transcode them to FLAC, see if they are recognized then.

Will they play in Quicktime Player?

Converting the missing files to FLAC, and then re-adding them seems to have worked. Still don’t understand why these two albums would be invisible to Roon.

Makes me wonder what else might be missing. Thanks for your help.

You could look in the logs to see if it choked on anything in the files. Could be a malformed file header or whatever that it did not handle well.

I must have accidentally told ROON to hide albums before now as I couldn’t find them. Once i had been told how to find hidden albums then un hide them they reappeared. Can’t remember all the details now….someone cleverer than me will advise I’m sure.

If you have hide albums enabled, different versions of an album appear under the album’s Versions tab, not as separate albums. Sometimes people don’t find them there if they don’t expect it. (Or an album is hidden explicitly by choosing Edit > Hide Album, but the OP clearly didn’t do that)

However, in such a case the new version of the album would still appear in Home > Recently Added after adding importing them to the library.
