Apple TV finally does HighRes Audio with Apple Music on tvOS 27 beta

Good news for those with an Apple TV and Apple Music account:

Using the All Speakers and TVs selector, Apple Music running on iOS/iPadOS/macOS functions as a remote for Apple Music running on the ATV, functioning more or less (more less than more, but hey) like Spotify Connect.

I use an HDMI splitter after the ATV, shifting all audio via eARC to my KEF LS60 and all video to my TV. Something similar can be achieved with a splitter separating the audio signal to optical or coaxial. Finally a well working (and inexpensive) way for playing the Apple Music signal on the stereo unmutilated.

Note: this functionality is new for tvOS 27 expected in September (first developer beta released yesterday, public beta expected next month). Yay for progress, I guess. :slight_smile:

24/192, 24/96 or just 24/48?

See picture: it already did 24/48 – but now also 24/96 and 24/192.

One can pinch-zoom the picture to see “Lossless = ALAC upto 24/48” and “Hi-Res Lossless = ALAC upto 24/192”. Nice to see this on the way…

Does this mean that a Roon endpoint app on tvOS would be able to do the same? I would appreciate that.

I’d appreciate it too if anyone would test this out. I’m considering to buy an Apple TV 4K 3rd gen second hand or a Wiim pro streamer.

Apple is about to drop a new Apple TV this year if that matters.

Better off waiting for the new AppleTV. AppleTV Is not updated much so the older units now, which are still decent, are old.

Plus… the way Apple build controlled obsolescence into everything they do, your probably best with the next version AppleTV.
