Describe the issue

I am using ARC 1.0.62 Build 333 on an iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 18.3. Whether I am at home using WiFi or using cellular out of home or at home, ARC freezes up and crashes normally within a minute of beginning to play any song of any resolution. It does not matter if streaming is set for original format or balanced. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app on a variety of occasions, to no avail.

Describe your network setup

I use Ubiquiti networking gear — a UXG Pro gateway, a US 24 switch, a US Pro 24 POE switch, U6 IW in-wall access points and U6 Pro access points. WiFi is Comcast 1G service. Right now in my home, Ookla reports 924 mbps download speed for WiFi and 146 mbps download speed for cellular. Cellular service is AT&T. Tracks which crash through ARC play just fine via WiFi in the Roon app on the iPhone at home, for comparison. I have VPN shut off.

Hi @Jeffrey_Robbins,

Thank you for the report. We can see the crashes in analytics and will escalate to development promptly.

Just prior to the crash, there are out of memory warnings reported to the ARC framework from the phone’s operating system. Are you using any other apps at the same time as ARC? Is this phone nearly out of storage?

Please keep an eye out for a post responding with any next steps or workarounds we have to suggest.

Hi @connor. I appreciate the quick reply. To your questions:

No report of any memory warnings.

No other apps in use.

801 Gb of available storage on the iPhone!

Thank you. JCR

Hi @Jeffrey_Robbins,

Thanks for the follow up and additional details. Development is investigating closely and we’ll follow up as soon as we know more.

Just to confirm - the crash only occurs after onboarding and syncing, when you reinstall? Does it only occur if you’ve initiated playback?

Only ARC. Roon on iPhone is very stable. JCR

@connor, I just did a quick test here at home.

On WiFi only (370 mbps download on iPhone just now): Roon ARC crashes and closes up within 1 minute, even without selecting or playing a track. Second time, it just froze up, again without selecting or playing a track.

On cellular only (276 mbps download on iPhone just now): same result.

Not sure what you are asking about onboarding and syncing after reinstall. I haven’t deleted and reinstalled again today, if that is what you want to know. Thanks. JCR

Thanks @Jeffrey_Robbins, that should be all we need to proceed. We’ll follow up once we have further clarification.

Hi @Jeffrey_Robbins,

Development has identified the relevant crash and there is a ticket in the pipeline. We’ll post here once we have an update on the estimated time to release for the associated fix.

Thank you!

Great, thank you, @connor. JCR

Hi @Jeffrey_Robbins ,

Just to give you a quick update here, the ticket is still in the review queue at the moment. There aren’t any more details needed at this time, but if any questions arise, we’ll be sure to reach out, thanks!

Thank you for the update, @noris. JCR

@noris, this probably is no surprise, but the new combo of Roon 2.47.1510 and Roon ARC 1.63.344 does not stop the issues on my end with ARC. I’m guessing the fix was not part of the new update today. JCR

Hi @Jeffrey_Robbins ,

Thanks for letting us know. I checked and it looks like the ticket is still in progress, I’ve reached out to the team again to see if we can get this looked at in the near future.
