ARC access issue: Roon server not configured for external access (ref#NL2WFP)

What’s happening?

· I'm having trouble with Roon ARC

What best describes your issue with ARC

· I can't log into ARC but I can log into Roon

Describe the issue

ARC message is “Your ROON server isn’t configured for access outside your network”

I have gone into the Spectrum router and activated the UpnP (sp?) protocol. I rebooted both modem & router.

ACR “sees” the router and identifies it by name.

Describe your network setup

Spectrum Router SAX1V1K

Hey @Christopher_Rogers,

Thanks for writing in! As a next step, could you navigate to Roon Settings> Roon Arc> Advanced and copy+paste the error code you see listed?

Here’s a KB article that provides some helpful info based on the specific error code you’re seeing:

Let me know if this helps!

@Christopher_Rogers, is it possible to deactivate UPnP on the Spectrum router and configure a port forwarding rule instead pointing to your Roon Server LAN IP address?

I can certainly deactivate the UPnP. It took me quite a bit of poking about to find UPnP inside the router configuration menu in the first place. I thought I was following the ROON “best practices” by activating UPnP.

Not to put too fine a point on it, I have no idea whatsoever as to the meaning of anything you wrote after “and….”

Hi Christopher,
You may find this walkthrough helpful combined with Roon’s documentation.

A second option is Tailscale. You may find it easier getting off the ground as well

The neighbor’s high school daughter came over and using TailScale got both the ARC and ROON Remote APPs working within minutes. Gave her $100 for her efforts.

My Trial period is within days of ending and I was fully prepared to quit. My position is that at $150 a year, ROON should play music without the need for the user to become a computer wizard.

I suffered through the nightmare of JRiver’s bizarre nomenclature and peculiarities for years.

My hopes are/were that ROON would be a truly user friendly solution: Perhaps it will become that, but not quite yet.

Again thank you for your efforts to help me.

BTW: Official ROON Support sucks…assuming it does exist.
