Arc is not fit for purpose
ARC has been working fine here ever since pretty much the start. So we are not all suffering from it.
I’ve been having lots of issues with Android Auto and ARC. I regularly have drop outs or pops and if I download albums to play, sometimes these don’t play at all. I have switched to Plexamp which has none of these issues and also sounds better. I have therefore left Plexamp doing its thing in my car and Roon doing its thing in my house. I am happy again.

I’ve installed Plex but I’m only concerned with music, not video.
But the Music option just seems to link to Tidal. Is this the only music streaming service supported ? I have a Qobuz subscription.

Plex links to Tidal and I believe their Tidal partnership ends soon or has ended already. Plex is for localised music so I am assuming you have music files stored on an external NAS or hard drive. If so, then configure Plex to add your files to it and then you can stream to your car. You will need to open up port 32400 on your router to allow communication.
Mobile data connection is key as others have said. Normally I get a good connection in my locality and can listen via ARC while dog-walking or in the car using CarPlay. But yesterday I could get nothing via ARC, despite having sufficient bars of connectivity. Only a power down and up again of my iPhone resolved the problem.
I have recently been using ARC over wireless CarPlay, in two different vehicles.
Works well, no problems.
I use it within 100 miles of Seattle, and I used it on a drive along the coast to San Francisco.
Perfect.
Only problems I saw initially was when I initiated connection in my driveway (because one car has a poor user interface that is dangerously to use while driving). In that situation it often failed and my theory was that I was at the outer range of my home WiFi, and the iPhone couldn’t decide between using cellular or WiFi. (That car had wired CarPlay, so it was ARC itself that had trouble.)
But that no longer happens.

I have sent endless time trying to get it to work. Sadly I removed from my phone and just stream tidal while in the car or play my music I own through Apple Music which I synced from my Mac. I still do not know why Roon even offers it , I have never gotten it to work
I had issues with Arc on iPhone . However on my android phone running ARC, no problem at all
My Roon Core due for renewal and now I will reconsider since iOS is not as stable as android
