ARC compatible USB TypeC DACs on Android

Hi,

Is there any list with compatible USB DACs for Roon ARC on Android?
I used to have the Zorloo Ztella but unfortunately I killed it slowly in my pocket…

Until I get a decent USB-DAC again, I’m trying some cheap stuff.

I got a Ugreen dongle which is recognised by Roon ARC as KT USB Audio. The problem is that when I connect the DAC and let ARC handle it, the volume can’t be controlled and It’s always on max. Lossless audio but obviously not usable.

Also, got another one to test, a Realtek ALC5686 chip based. When I connect this one, I don’t get the dialog to allow Roon ARC to handle it. It appears as “USB Audio - Realtek USB2.0 Audio” and it can’t play lossless even though it claims it’s a 384KHz/32bit DAC.

My current smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy S23.

Is there any way to know how Roon ARC will behave with a USB-DAC? Does it add support for less known dongles?

I have a TANCHJIM-SPACE, and it works reasonably well. What I mean by this is that ARC is temperamental, and doesn’t always switch from Android Audio, even though the car is locked elsewhere. I usually have to force ARC to stop, and reconnect.

Once recognized, it’s fine.

I have an original Moondrop Dawn (balanced), the newer Moondrop Dawn Pro, and a Linsoul Kiwi Ears Allegro, all under £50.

All play nicely with Roon ARC on a Samsung S24 Ultra.

Measured performance of all 3 is exemplary and sonically they’re indistinguishable from each other and a Benchmark DAC3HGC/HPA4.

Top-level DAC performance has never been more affordable.
