· My phone (S24+) recently got the OneUI 8.5 upgrade and now ARC crashes every time I try to connect my earphones over Bluetooth. I have removed the Bose app and reinstalled ARC. Phone has been rebooted a few times. I also tried a Jabra headset that I have and ARC crashes then too.
Hey @Ross_Clarke, welcome to the community, and thanks for the clear report.
ARC crashing only when Bluetooth audio connects, especially after a OneUI update, points to a change in the phone’s audio stack rather than your network or Roon Server. To get a better picture, a few things would help:
Does ARC stay open if Bluetooth is turned off entirely, or does it crash only at the moment the headset connects?
Are you seeing the crash with both earbuds and headphones, or just with specific devices?
What happens if you disconnect the Bluetooth device first, open ARC, and then reconnect it?
In the meantime, one useful check is to clear ARC’s local data and reinstall it after removing any saved Bluetooth pairings on the phone, then pair the earphones again.
If you can send over the exact crash behavior you’re seeing, we can take the next step from there.
Thank you for the suggestions. I uninstalled ARC, then unpaired all of my BT devices from the phone, restarted my phone, did a little voodoo chant, and tapped my heels together three times…
Next, I reinstalled ARC and re-paired my earphones and now the app no longer crashes when playing through them! This seems like a sledgehammer approach, but it solved the problem which was the goal. I’ll go back and re-pair the rest of my devices and call it a day.
It sounds like there was a stale Bluetooth routing state; ARC was attempting to handoff to the Bluetooth pathway associated with the previous OneUI/Android OS after the update.
The reboot/reinstall should have resolved it, but we’ll look into whether we can prevent this condition from occurring intermittently.
If only I was that lucky. Today, I’m back to the constant crashing. I’ll go through the same motions again to try to reset it again. I also turned off the BT sync to Samsung cloud in case that was restoring the stale data. Will keep you posted, but I’m open to suggestions.
Wanted to follow up on this and see if there are any updates on your side. Were you able to share your latest status and findings from the reopened thread, or let us know where things stand now? Thanks, and we’ll keep going from there.
Hi Noris. I have managed a level of stability so far. The one I haven’t done is reinstall the Bose app again. This doesn’t count as a fix so I will reinstall it and see if ARC starts crashing again. If it does, I’ll just uninstall it again and wait for an update from someone. Let me know if I can provide any logs aid in troubleshooting.
Just checking in on this, were you able to try the reinstall again and see whether Arc crashes afterward? If it does show up again, let us know what you see and we can take the next step from there. Thanks!
I reinstalled the Bose app yesterday and, so far, ARC hasn’t crashed again, yet. I also got a new security update for Android this morning and things are still good. I think we can close this one off now. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for letting us know. Glad to hear ARC has stayed stable after the reinstall and the Android security update. We’ll go ahead and close this one out, and enjoy the music.
