Description of Issue

Roon worked fine for couple of years. ARC worked fine since it was installed several months ago. Recently the app closes (crashes) after a few minutes of playtime and trying to open the app again results in an immediate closing the app. I have to delete the app on my tablet or iphone and reinstall it to get ARC to play.

  • It happens after I’ve not used ARC for a day or two. Roon can play fine from the laptop at any time.
  • I have not changed anything in the system.
  • The Dell is set to never shut down or go to sleep with AC connected as it’s only used for music with Roon.

Hi @Allen_Baron,

Thank you for your post and for your patience while we worked through the queue to reach your inquiry.

We’ve investigated diagnostics available from your Roon Server and noticed requests to Qobuz and Roon’s API are timing out. Looking more closely, the handshake between your Roon Remotes and your Roon Server is closing forcibly. It’s likely that you’re also experiencing symptoms in Roon, and not just ARC, if your network reachability is changing so frequently.

Do you have any difficulty queuing or playing content from Qobuz on your local network? What about locally stored content on the 4TB and 1TB drives?

In your router’s web administration, there might be settings related to the UPnP timer for device discovery. I’d verify that number is above the minimum value available, ideally more than a few hours. I’d additionally check which DNS server is in use with your router, perhaps changing to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS.

There are also playback failures visible in ARC beyond just crashing. Is there a certain type of content that causes the audio stream to stop? When the app does crash, does playback continue? Does the UI freeze?

Apologies for the barrage of questions; the more information, the better, as development is eager to pin down a cause here. Thank you again.

Qobuz plays fine by itself and playing roon is problem free on the local network. Playback stops when ARC crashes and takes me back to home screen. Have not found any playlists or source whether local music in hard drives or Qobuz. This morning crashing continues, even when the core settings state that it’s “ready” for Roon ARC to securely access my Roon Core. I delete the app, reinstall it and plays fine. No Port Forwarding problem.

So are you done with me? I got no reply from Connor after answering his questions. Still crashing despite ready Roon core. BTW I’m not a savvy computer guy and much of the first reply was over my head. Any chance for a more understand-able reply.

Hi @Allen_Baron,

Can you please confirm which devices you are using with ARC, and among them, which encounters the issue? Diagnostics list both an iPhone and an iPad, as well as a USB DAC connected to the latter (Dragonfly, to be specific).

Put simply, ARC is reporting difficulty connecting to your Roon Server machine.

Images are failing to load, and occasionally, you’re logged out entirely.

In some cases, these network errors align in both Roon and ARC logs, suggesting a broader issue with the router or your main computer. I recommend you take a look at the web administration page for your Asus router to make sure you don’t have a firewall interfering with Roon.

Roon ARC is used when I want to use headphones only around the house via iPad mini or iphone 12, Audioquest Cobalt DAC/headphone amp, and HiFi Man headphones. I’ve had no problems for several years prior to ARC availability, My Wifi is robust at 80Mb and no problems at all streaming video and and using multiple devices via wifi. ARC has been fine for the last week with no crashes noted. .
