Describe the issue

ARC will occasionally delete all of my Downloaded Playlists, and I have to go back and re-download. This has happened about three times.

Custom Linux Router, 2.5 Gbit network switches

Hey @Steve_Brueck,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your report! Sorry to hear about your downloads not sticking around - can you provide a bit more detail around when this happens? Do you perform any specific function in Arc when this occurs?

Have you restored a recent backup to your Roon Server? Or, performed any database-related function?

I generally just go and get in the car, plug up the phone, and go, nothing at all unusual with Arc in the car. On the Nucleus, I never do anything in Roon other than updating my music files and playlists on the NAS. I never even know it’s happened until I go to play one of the downloaded playlist and see they aren’t there.

Roon does a backup once a week and the last backup was June 5, and that would roughly be when the the downloads disappeared.

Hello @Steve_Brueck,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.

The behavior you’ve described is quite unusual for ARC. Based on the diagnostic data enabled on your account, we can see that you’re using an Android phone.

Could you please confirm whether you’ve used any system cleaners or optimization apps recently? These apps can sometimes remove files. On Samsung and other Android devices, common examples include:

  • Device Care (built-in on Samsung devices)
  • Clean Master
  • CCleaner
  • Files by Google (when using cleaning suggestions)
  • Avast Cleanup
  • One Booster
  • All-In-One Toolbox
If any of these or similar apps were used, they may have interfered with ARC’s functionality. Disabling their storage cleaning or auto-optimization features may help avoid this issue.

Also, if you have any idea when the files might have been removed or when the issue first started, please let us know the approximate date or timeframe. This will help us correlate the logs and investigate further.

Looking forward to your reply.

The only app in that list that I have on my phone is Device Care, and of course I can’t uninstall it. It’s not setup to do auto cleanups, and I don’t manually run it.

I have seen it happen when I replaced the storage location from ssd to the NAS, and even when swapping hard drives attached to the Nucleus. All storage locations used the same folder structure along with the same playlist.

Does Arc update downloaded playlist if they have changed on the server?

My wife was with me this last time it happened, and we think it was 5-7 days ago. I can’t see it, but if there’s a date stamp on Downloads, I re-downloaded the same day.

Hello @Steve_Brueck,

Thank you for the update.

I have reviewed the ARC logs, and unfortunately, we do not see any evidence of tracks being removed from the device. It is most likely that the tracks were already rotated.

Please kindly report the issue again as soon as it occurs, referencing this thread, so we can investigate further.

Hi @Steve_Brueck,

It’s been some time since we’ve seen activity on this thread, but have you encountered any inconsistencies with downloads in ARC since your last post here?

Generally, locally downloaded files will only stop being visible in ARC for four reasons:

  1. The phone operating system has deleted the underlying files or restricted access to them

  2. The user has deleted the files within ARC or within the phone’s file viewer

  3. The ARC app has been reinstalled or the server location has changed

  4. The underlying tracks have been removed from the Roon library

If none of these four is true, please provide the name of a downloaded track that has gone missing in ARC, and we should be able to pinpoint it in diagnostics. Thanks!

It wasn’t missing songs, it was every downloaded playlist.

It hasn’t happened since that last time it occurred.

Got it, thanks for the update @Steve_Brueck - certainly let us know the speific name of a track if it does happen again in the near future. :+1:
