ARC freezing core when re-connecting

Roon Core Machine

Windows 11 Pro 22H2 OS Build: 22621.2283
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
Roon v2.0 (build 1311) production 64 bit.

ARC 1.0(214) running on an iPhone 14 Pro Max - iOS 16.6.1

Hi,

When I run ARC in offline mode (playing local files downloaded through the app from my core) when re-syncing to the core will cause it (the core) to freeze. It doesn’t happen every time I reconnect ARC to the core, but it happens more often than not (I’d wager 80-90% of the time).

ARC will sync the played data fine, I can see the play counts update on the homepage and it will send the scrobbles to Last.fm fine as well, but it is after this that the freeze will happen requiring a restart of the Roon app on the PC (not the PC itself). After restarting, everything seems to run normally again.

The screenshot below is an example of what it looks like, the Roon loading icon looks like it is still loading (the 3 little bars keep their animation running) but it won’t load anything and it won’t be able to play any tracks - and will stop playing anything that is currently playing at the time.

The number of tracks played when offline doesn’t seem to make a difference, and when I try to connect to the core it is on my homes internal Wifi from the phone (the core is connected via Ethernet). In case it is of any help, I’ve got the core running through the Roon client on my PC, I don’t have the core running seperately.

Thanks.

Hi @Spektrolith,

Thank you for the report and for your patience while we worked through the queue to reach your report.

Are you able to elaborate on your network setup at all, including the relative arrangement and make/model of any routers and switches? Knowing more of the relevant infrastructure will greatly expedite our investigation.

Do you have an approximate timestamp of when this occurred within the last few days? The team will investigate system logging in the meantime.

Hi Connor,

The router is a BT Smart Hub 2, but I connect via WIFI (from my phone) through a Netgear Orbi mesh network (2 base stations - a primary and slave), which has its primary base station connected via gigabit ethernet to the Smart Hub. The PC running the Roon Server is connected directly to the Smart Hub via gigabit ethernet.

I’ve recently formatted my PC (hosting the Roon Server) and installed the Server seperate from the client (restoring the database from a backup), but I am still having the same issue. Roon ARC and the server both function normally after restarting the Roon Server service following a freeze.

The only other change since my post is updating my iPhone to iOS 17.0.3, but the issue is still happening identically to when it was on iOS 16.

The last freeze I had was at approximately 8pm (UK time) 6/10/23. If I have any more, I can update this thread as and when they happen.

If you need any more information let me know.

Thanks
