· Router is tplink Archer BE550. Extender is Archer RE315. Computer is connected to the network via cable from computer directly plugged into the router. ISP is Verizon Fios. Tailscale connection is active on both the server and ARC client device (Google Pixel 8). There are no switches or VPNs. Server Computer is GMKTec mini computer with Ryzen 5 CPU and 16 GB RAM
Can you please share a screenshot of what you encounter within the ARC app?
Diagnostics show the initial sync between RoonServer and ARC due to timeouts. Often, this is a sign that the mobile phone’s operating system is imposing data transfer limits on the app itself, usually because the Roon library contains a large number of tracks (over about 100,000).
Have you previously synced ARC without issue on the same device?
I just get the opening screen for Roon ARC and nothing happens. See the attached screenshot. I was able to start it successfully several months ago, then at some point I wasn’t able to. I got frustrated and gave up on it until today. I do have a large library (about 150,000 tracks). Your reply indicates this may be the source of my problems. When does library become “too big”? If I need to cull my drive, what is the upper limit for tracks or gigabytes of storage? Thank you!
We have analyzed the diagnostics for your account and can see that there are no ARC-related entries in our logs.
This suggests that the ARC app on your phone most likely wasn’t logged in.
Could you please try deleting the Roon ARC app from your phone and testing both the APK and the Play Store installations?
Please let us know if either of them works or allows you to sign in.
Also, does it work when you are on your local network?
Thanks for getting back to me and helping me to resolve my problem (at least for now). I greatly appreciate it.
After installing and deleting and re-installing both the Roon remote control and Roon ARC apps for my Google Pixel 8 phone and rebooting all several times (I downloaded and installed the versions from the Roon downloads page on the Web), both apps seem to be working properly– that is, the apps are able to connect with my Roon server and access music from both my Music Library and Qobuz. Yay!
The only qualifier is that Roon ARC only seems to be able to access the server from my home network and not remotely (I will be testing Roon ARC to see if it works outside of my house).
I’m still greatly concerned that from time to time there is some unknown “weirdness” that takes out the Roon remote and Roon ARC apps and renders them unable to load properly and access the server. I don’t understand why this happens, but it’s extremely frustrating when it does.
I don’t know if this is due to a Windows 11 and/or Roon app update or some other reason.
I’m a lifetime Roon subscriber/member and this has happened to me many, many times during the multiple years I’ve been using Roon… so often that every time it happens I get a mild form of PTSD that makes me want to forget the whole thing– Roon, that is… but then when it works as it should, it makes me very happy (sigh).
The inconsistency and fidlyness make it difficult for me to recommend Roon to other potential users, which I’d like to be able to do without qualification.
Why does this keep happening? What is one to do?
Your thoughts? I know that other users on this board have reported similar issues.
Thanks again. Again, your help is greatly appreciated
You should check your Roon Settings > Roon Arc when you disable wifi and attempt to connect to Arc, see if any error codes pop up under the Roon Arc settings.
These are very likely different, non-related issues, as the Roon mobile app and Roon Arc function a bit differently.
We’ll be monitoring for the error codes you may see in your settings.
Right now, we don’t have an exact number for you, but its right around 100k tracks.
