ARC: Issue connecting Astell & Kern HC-Series via USB-C to Samsung Phone [Ticket In]

Full form submission

What’s happening?

I'm having trouble with my DAC, speakers, streamer, etc.

What best describes the issue with your audio device?

Other

I am using Astell & Kern AK HC-2 for my Galaxy S24 . and When I connect AK HC-2 to my phone and run the room arc, the roon arc will turn off. Please update the driver as soon as possible

The ARC USB driver is still in BETA.

Hi @JANG_MIN_HO,

Thank you for the post. We merged a ticket issuing a fix for USB DAC’s causing crashing in ARC on Samsung devices - this was pushed as part of the ARC 1.0.47 release two weeks ago.

First, can you please specify the symptom you’re seeing? If you don’t have audio output functionality but the app stays open, you’re likely encountering a liminal support space with the USB driver as the moderators mentioned above.

However, if ARC is crashing completely when you connect the DAC, we want to verify you’re testing with the fix in place, so we can escalate this report.

Is this an issue you’re still encountering on the most recent build of ARC, 242?

Yes, yesterday I deleted and reinstalled the ron arc several times, and it still turns off when I connect roon arc to the Galaxy S24.

Hi @JANG_MIN_HO,

Are you still seeing this currently?

The crash we’ve identified in diagnostics from the date of your post is possibly preventable by taking the following steps before launching ARC on the phone:

Does this prevent the crash from occurring immediately?

Additionally, how much storage space is available on this phone?

I read your e-mail. I clear ALL. But CRASH occur again.

Anytime I use USB device, ARC always crashes. Is that normal?
Sumsung Galaxy S23,Astell&Kern HC3.

I used HC 3 regularly with my iPhone 13 and now use HC4 with iPhone 15 and neither ever crashed

I see. Maybe the phone is the cause of the problem. Is there a compatibility issue between the hc3 and the Samsung phone? Hope the Roon team can solve this problem as soon as possible. It would be great if roonarc could support my usb device perfectly.

Hi @Dandiss_Edmun, @JANG_MIN_HO,

We’re aware of this issue with Samsung phones specifically - the A&K devices were unfortunately unaffected by the fix we’d previously implemented. The team has a ticket to address this crash and will post here once it progresses through the pipeline.

Thank you for patience.

Hi @Dandiss_Edmun,

We’ve pushed a fix to this issue and wanted to verify whether you were still encountering this problem with your HC-2 and S24. Thank you!

This is great news, but where can I get a new version with the fix? It seems that any version I can download is 1.0.54. With that version, the crashes continue.

Still can’t find the fixed version or the latest version has not been fixed yet?

Finally, I picked build 100276.But unfortunately,my S23 and hc3 still crash when I chose USB device.

Updated to the latest version of ARC 1.0.54 on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Combined with Focal Bathys using their DAC in USB mode, ARC still crashes after a couple of seconds. I’ve cleared cache, enable/disabled USB audio routing, restarted phone and app etc - ARC will always crash after a number of seconds once I enable USB driver and connect my Bathys in DAC mode.

If I disable USB driver, and connect via Bluetooth, everything works.

It seems that s23 and s24‘s usb function still remains abnormal.

Hi @Dandiss_Edmun / @Joe_0 ,

Can you please let us know the exact local time + date of the next time you reproduce this issue, so that we can check remote logs for further clues? Thanks!

Based on your suggestion, I gave it a try. The following is the message you need。‘July 12, 10:13 a.m. Beijing time‘

I have tried it just now on my S24 Ultra and had crashes again.

Attempted several times across 13:03 and 13:04 (Time zone = UTC +1 British Summer Time (BST)) with a date of 12 July 2024.

Please let me know if you need any more information - it’s great to see the team actively investigate this
