Does Roon have any plans to turn offline mode in Arc into a fully fledged library ?
By this I mean -
Only downloaded music shows.
Can search by artist, album, track etc
I assume Arc is just meant to be an app to interface to Roon when away from the home.
But I’m looking for something more self contained.
For example, was looking at Dopple for iOS. Download the files and is self contained for playback. Sadly it has issues such as no gapless playback - as far as I can tell.
Or does anything know any other iOS that can perform this function to a high standard.
I prefer Roon ARC to stay as simple as possible and not get encumbered with anything but streaming music from Tidal, Qobuz, or local files. We can fool with other things at home.
You can download your music files to Roon ARC on your phone. Tidal and Qobuz don’t allow you to download their streaming music files to a third party music player app. Neither does Apple Music.
That’s really the issue. If you own enough music to keep you happy away from home, you can download it to your phone, put Arc in offline mode, and access your downloaded albums and playlists in the Downloads tab. (That’s what I do.) On the other hand, if you’re reliant on Qobuz or Tidal, you can’t really go offline.
But it would certainly be nice to be able to view those downloads in the same way you can view content on Roon, rather than as one big pile of music. You ought to submit that as a feature request; I’d vote for it.
How long a plane ride is this? Isn’t it enough to plan what you want to listen to in the hotel or on the tarmac before needing to switch airplane mode on?
There’s no streaming service that allows downloading by third party apps that I know of.
As I use Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones on aircraft via BT APTXHD, as I want ANC in that noisy environment, I just use Plexamp and enjoy excellent reliability and sound.
You can’t search when offline to find an album. You have a hundred of downloads or even less it becomes very clunky to find what you want. This is what the op is on about. An app that doesn’t require it to be online to use it fully.
Not just plane rides there are lots of places with bad cellular of without internet. I could not use my plan when I Canada recently as it would have cost me an arm and a leg. So it was downloads all the time. Lack of search in arc is painfull. It’s the same in PlexAmp as well so not unique to ARC but a fully local search in the app not reliant on the net would be great.
Aha, okay. I’ve only downloaded a few albums (for flights), and don’t tend to need search. Agreed, a local copy of the database, synchronized with your Roon core, would be handy for when “server not found”.
I get what you mean about data coverage, I just don’t think finding music to listen to is that difficult in either player and your offline music can be refreshed when on hotel WiFi.
I tend to not use search but choose an artist and then queue up releases to listen, I have different expectations to the OP and am prepared to plan ahead.
I have hundreds of downloads the current model makes it very difficult to navigate in offline mode. It has no filter so you have to scroll scroll and scroll. There is no artist sort or album sort it’s just rubbish. If albums section works then you can but I have found this but tends not to like offline mode much. So
I am limited to downloads section where you can’t filter properly at all.
