Describe the issue

In ARC I have selected Original release date under Album dates for sorting, but it doesn't seem to work. Is it a bug? Is there something that will be fixed soon? I have it sorted that way in Roon, and would like to have it that way in ARC as well, as it is set up as an option.

Hi @kjetilbergseth,

Thank you for your post. Just for clarity, are you referring to the “Date” sort field within the Albums browser in ARC? Can you please share a screenshot demonstrating the problem you’re experiencing?

My albums are not sorted by original release date even though I’ve selected it in settings.

As you can see, the albums of Manfred Mann isn’t sorted by original release date even if every album have correct reales date in Roon.

They appear in the correct order according to the original release date in Roon, but not in ARC.

Hi @kjetilbergseth,

That’s all we need, thanks. We’ll reach out with a more technically precise response shortly.

These are local albums in your screenshot - have you edited the original release date field or otherwise added any custom metadata to these files?

Some of the albums in Roon I have edited the original release date, but most of them already have it when they were imported to Roon. But it doesn’t seem to matter whether I have edited the metadata or not.

Thanks @kjetilbergseth. One quick test - try disabling your streaming services temporarily in Roon and restarting both RoonServer and ARC. Do you see the sort date suddenly fix itself in ARC?

In either case, development has ticketed this behavior and we’ll post here when a fix is anticipated for release. We appreciate the report.

I’ve tried that, it didn’t help.
Thanks for trying to fix this issue :+1:

Hi @kjetilbergseth,
Okay thanks for letting us know. Once we have an update on the investigation we will let you know here!

Thank you.

Hi @kjetilbergseth,

I’m revisiting your post from above.

Can you please point out precisely what’s not behaving as expected about the sort order in ARC?

You’ve applied an Artist sort to the Albums browser, and these Mannfred Mann’s Earth Band albums appear to be sorted in descending order by their original release date (Angel Station, 1979, Watch, 1978, etc.). If you sort by Date, is there anything wrong there?

No, it is not true that Manfred MAnn is sorted by original release date (Angel station 1979, Watch 1978, Roaring Silence 1976, Somewhere In Africa 1982, Solar Fire 1973, Criminal Tango 1986). And I can give hundreds of other examples. There is no artist I have many albums of that are sorted in the correct order by original release date.
And I do not want to sort by date, I want to sort by artist and then by original release date, like I have it in Roon. It is set up similarly in Roon, first by artist and then their albums are sorted by original release date.
When I now tried to sort by date it looks like they are sorted correctly by date, but that is not how I want to sort them.

I reported something that looks similar long ago

Ok, thank you for clarifying. As I mentioned, there’s a ticket in the pipeline with development.

Hi @kjetilbergseth,

Thank you for your patience. Here’s the current status of this initiative:

ARC doesn’t currently process stacked sorting - no secondary sort is applied (in this case, Original Release Date) on top of the primary sort method, Artist (descending), thus Albums won’t appear by chronological release within any artist on this page.

There are server-side changes we can implement with a future Roon release. They’ll emerge in a Roon build, not an ARC build, but we’ll announce it clearly in Roon Software Discussion and Early Access when the fix is released.

Okay, thanks. Good that you figured it out and that there will be a fix. Looking forward to it.

Hi @kjetilbergseth,

Thanks for your ongoing patience. We have a brief update on the timeline: The fixes associated with this sorting problem are proceeding through the pipeline and will be released in the next (upcoming) Early Access build. We’ll let you know here when that occurs. Thanks!
