ARC playlists... can't see tracks on local wifi

On Roon ARC, if i’m on same wifi network as core, I can see my playlists, but if I click on one, it just spins.

However, if I disconnect from wifi and go on cellular, I can see the tracks and play them just fine.

I want to bring a playlist to a party and I’m not confident about wifi/cell access, so I want to download the tracks to play later.

But is this not possible on same wifi network as core? (I haven’t had the chance to do this from a different wifi network.)

On the same wifi* as the core, ARC should work just fine in all aspects. It should do so even when port forwarding is not working.

I just tested and my ARC is also on the home wifi right now, and it’s playing my playlists (mixed local and streaming) just fine.

However, going to a party and relying on ARC in its current state for music delivery is brave. My ARC currently loses all tracks (even downloaded) as soon as I go offline, and it’s not just me but reported by quite a few others. (The albums still show, just the tracks are not listed. It seems that one has to open every single album after downloading, while still having a network connection. And I am not even sure if that’s reliable)

* and also on foreign wifi if they don’t have port blocks

Unfortunately this is my case. Fortunately it works reliably as long as you are running the same arc version between sessions. Upgrading to the next release is a coin toss.

About time someone else noticed this I reported it way way back and it’s been ignored.

Yep as above reply this is nothing new it’s been like this for months.

I know you did and quite many others. It’s baffling that this wasn’t fixed right away. There are two ongoing threads in Early Access as well.

haha, I’m not really living on the edge. But yeah, if one were to rely on it for something important, that might be a bad idea. (Turned out we had plenty of music, and my sorry playlist wasn’t needed.)

I will say, though, that i’ve had zero trouble with ARC when I use it in the car, or walking the dog. It’s been reliable for me. This is the first time I’ve actually tried to DOWNLOAD something.

The other issue, when I attempted to download it on cellular, is that about half the songs were unavailable for download. I think i remember seeing that Roon (as a third party) won’t let you download tracks from the streaming services. (The others are physically in my CD library that I’ve ripped.) So, there is that.

The next time I want to do this kind of thing, I’ll probably just use Spotify. Sound quality is not important in the least, and it seems I can download anything,

Only local files on your core can be downloaded and yes that’s because of streaming service restrictions, they probably don’t even have the rights themselves from the labels to allow this for 3rd-parties, just within their own apps.

Generally ARC has been working fine for me for streaming as well, but the disappearing downloads are a total mess.

It’s ok except when they have server issues which is more often than I would like. But seems to be ok at moment since last issues. But it’s not good enough with spotty reception though as it just doesn’t cache ahead enough like the streaming services do or even PlexAmp where you can adjust your caching ahead parameters. It’s been awful commuting into London this week as reception has been worse than normally and had train stop in poor reception area and music stops. Extra cache to preload ahead when it allows would help here. Currently I am just thinking of taking my dap instead as it has all I need on it locally something I can’t do with arc currently. In my work office I get the odd dropout to via Wi-Fi but that’s likely the office system rather than ARC.

For me ARC is also useless now.

It’s quite strange as there were several builds when it was really working. The biggest complaint at that time was poor graphics quality.

And lack of any feedback from Roon staff on this and several other problems is a bit frustrating.

I appreciate that some are having issues with ARC, but I didn’t mean for this to be a “general complaints about ARC” thread.

Was really to ask the question:

“Is it not possible to view and download PLAYLISTS with ARC while on the same WiFi network as the core?”

Yes it is possible as long as all the tracks are your own.

I answered that one in my first sentence in this thread
As long as it’s files you have locally and subject to the disappearing downloads issue that people have been complaining about (which is pertinent to your question)

If that isn’t working for you, something is off

yah, I get the download thing “as long as the tracks are your own” (not the issue) but it’s the view thing that’s still a hangup…

I can see the list of playlists, but if I click on one of them, it just spins when i’m on the same wifi network as the core. If i move to cellular, the playlist populates.

And it seems others have the same issue.

Yeah and like I said that’s not normal. It should work and does for me. Wouldn’t be the first bug in ARC if it fails for you though
