Description of Issue

When I’m at the gym using ARC it will only play the first 3 songs of an album and then stop playing and then constantly says poor connection, I need to remote desktop to my PC, connect to the core and reboot it & then wait 4 or 5 minutes (won’t work straight away) and then it connects and I can play 1 song then it stops with poor connection again and I need to go through the process again and it will play 1 song and stop and so it continues, I gave up after 4 times.

When I get home I can’t connect to the core from my PC so I need to reboot the core wait 4 or 5 minutes and all is good again until the next day when I’m out and connect with ARC again & the same occurs, this has been happening for the past 5 days or so, I updated the software to new versions yesterday but still happened today.

I have exactly the same issue. My core is installed on a NUC and i use Arc on my Android 13 phone.
I can connect to Arc no problem but after playing a few tracks I get the poor connection message. This also stops the Roon app loading on remotes that control my main system at home. A reboot of my core is then required.
This problem occurs using Arc on both my home wifi or when im out and about connected to my 4g.

One thing to try.

On the ARC settings page, if you have “Automatically pick best quality” set to on, turn it off and set cellular to CD Quality or Original Format and see if that makes a difference.

Hi @raf and @Barry_Scotton,

The tech support team has a few clarifying questions to help our investigation.

Do you encounter this issue with streaming (Tidal/Qobuz) tracks, local tracks, or both? Also, I’m assuming this only reproduces on a cellular connection in ARC, and not on your home network?

Are you using a VPN or proxy server on this network?

The team will take a deeper look into diagnostics once we see your response. Thank you again for the report and I’m sorry to hear you’ve had to deal with these interruptions with ARC.

Hi Connor. I dont use Qobuz or Tidal, just local music. And yes, the issue happens both on a cellular connection and when connected to my home network.

Thanks Daniel. I tried those settings and it didn’t help unfortunately.

Hi Connor,
Haven’t tried with Tidal, I’ll try it today and while at the gym I’m connected to wi-fi as there is no cellular coverage and no VPN or proxy server.

Yes happens on Tidal and on cell connection.

Hi Daniel,
Makes no difference with those settings.

Just wondering, has there been any progress with this issue?

Did anyone find a solution to this problem or the reason why it’s happening? I keep trying Arc with every new release hoping that this issue has been resolved but unfortunately, for me at least, it hasn’t.

It’s a strange one Barry as I stream from ARC everyday in the office without issue.
I occasionally have to throw the app out of memory on Android and iOS when it has been sitting there a long time, but once I am playing it just works without issue

I get this on Android quite often yet my iPhone doesn’t. Kill and restart app it more often then works. It does have me thinking there is some underlying issue with connecting the to their authentication server. This has been on Wi-Fi away from home and over cellular.

Yes it’s a weird one. I dont know if it’s an Android issue or not but unfortunately i dont have an Apple device to try.
It’s frustrating because Arc works over 4g/cullular on my phone no problem and plays music for a while. Sometimes It’ll play 10 tracks, another time it’ll play more but ultimately i always eventually get the poor connection message rendering Arc unuseable. The other annoying thing is that whenever this happens, Roon at home becomes unresponsive and i have to reboot my NUC core.

Have you tried throwing the app away out of memory (doing this depends on the type of Android phone you have).
This is something I do often on both iOS and Android to keep things reliable with ARC.

Thanks Michael but what do you mean ‘Throwing the app away out of memory?’

Well like iOS apps generally continue to run in the Background.
ARC does not work well like that.
On my OnePlus phone I long pull up from the bottom of the screen and scroll through the apps running. When I get to ARC I use my finger to throw it off the top of the screen which takes it out of memory.

If you have a Samsung phone you press the multi taking button and do it from there (though my last Samsung phone was a Galaxy S4

Oh right, I see what you mean now. The problem is, once I get the poor connection message on my phone it doesn’t matter what i do, Arc won’t work again until I reboot my core.

iOS actually suspends apps in the background I thought this is why ARC has the downloads issue of them stopping. But I agree ARC appears to be a severe memory hog unlike any other application I have used something they need to address we should not have to close down apps to run ARC phones are not dedicated devices for one thing.

What’s your core running on, I had this a few times back in October but not since. It should not be taking out the core at all.
