  1. Roon remote will not work!

  2. No sound in my speaker only inside the pc!
They will not change from 2.4ghz to 5 ghz if that is really important. Looses contact with Roon after 10/20 sek. Roon finds them and when I hit play it shows that it plays inthe software, but no sound. Tried every remote i have with volume.

I am not a technician and this is the first time trying Roon which has become a pain! Downloaded it 2 days ago!

My iPhone 14 pro as remote will not work. `Waiting for your Roon server… is what I get on my phone-

On my phone Roon ARC says `to connect please check if core is configuered for remote access. Pressed yes in the column in the software.

I think my three end points running on the same IP address. Phone, PC and KEF.

IPv6 and IPv4 it says on the router that it is using both. Can not turn off IPv6!

When turning firewall off, the remote suddenly works untill I start the firewall again. But the ARC doesn`t do anything. There is something with the firewall!

Can someone please help!

Anders

Hi Martin!
I can see you have been looking at my post.
You see, I am totally new on Roon and can not have anything to work. It is frustrating and when am not having technical insight when it comes to ARC, making changes in my router, then it all becomes a mess. Should I just go to the store and buy the Nucleus? I dont know if i need to go through the same ARC router settings with that machine.
Do you have some tip for me?
Best regards
Anders

@Anders_Grue, please request assistance in the public forum. Thanks.

I’m a volunteer moderator, and help out where I can. I simply moved your post to the ARC category. However, after reading your thread more closely, it isn’t clear to me if your problem is getting started with Roon in general, or using ARC when away from home.

If it’s okay, I’d like to convert this PM to a public post, and append to your support thread.

Hi.
No problem.
Anders

It would be helpful if you confirmed that you are trying to use Roon at home with the KEFs, or having trouble setting up ARC for use outside your home. Thanks.

Hi Martin! Sorry for late answer.

Yes I confirm that I have big problems understanding how to set up the router when trying to get ARC to work! I’m not sure that IP address is right and how to change ports. Do not know if my firewall is kidding with me.

I can not have my speakers play either. Hitting play I can see that the waveform doesn’t react and Roon looses contact within 5/6 seconds.KEF is in wifi setting.

Anders

You shouldn’t try to do three things at once. I’d recommend postponing the ARC question and focusing on getting Roon basics to work first. I.e., making the regular remote work and having audio output.

And your description of those basics was a bit confusing. E.g. what does this mean

Are they running on the same IP address or not? Because if yes, this can’t work because IP addresses must be unique for each device

Which is evidence that you need to solve the firewall issue. This should be the first thing to do if the remote starts working when the firewall is off. Create the firewall exceptions that are mentioned in the documentation:

This is my recommendation, too. Using screenshots is also helpful, so you may want to read this guide.

However, your first step is to add a firewall rule as suggested by @Suedkiez.

It looks like this on my pc and on my router.

Last picture is my Firewall rule. If this is set up right, I`m not shure.

By turning off my Firewall KEF was playing when using Roon Remote on my phone! Wow! Do not understand what`s stopping it from not working with firewall on?

Regarding the last image, this is a firewall rule set on the router and looks wrong. It looks to me as if it is allowing any connection from 10.0.0.11 (ipv4) on the WAN (internet) side and forwarding to all LAN side ip addresses. However, 10.0.0.11 is a non-routable ipv4 address and so should not be seen on the WAN side.

I do not think that you need this firewall rule at all. The only firewall exceptions that I know to be needed relate to the firewalls on the laptop you are using as your Roon Server - which you appear to have - albeit somewhat confused by multiple entries. I don’t know what the ‘Roon_1’ entry is. This could probably be removed. Also, I don’t believe you need to open the ports for public (Offentlig) networks (assuming you have setup your home network to be ‘private’ (Privat).

When you come to set up ARC, you will need to either enable uPnP or set up a port forwarding rule (portåpningsregler) for TCP over ipv4 with the destination ip address set to the address of your Roon server (10.0.0.11?) and the incomming port number set to 55000 (The port number set in Roon → Settings → ARC).

However, as others have said, setting up the port forwarding for Roon ARC is the last thing you should worry about.

Thanks for the reply. Please take a look at my screenshots

As mentioned earlier, let’s focus on getting Roon working with the KEFs before sorting out ARC. You don’t need ARC to use Roon in the home.

Please confirm that you have read the help article posted earlier, and have created a firewall exception on the Windows laptop.

I dont know what happened just now, but eveything is working, even Roon ARC?
I think when people struggles to much, someone sees this and just give your pc an update and everything works! Roon ARC syncronises for the first time it says on my phone. It take some time I assume.
But, thanks a lot for trying to help with all my confuses. Really apreciate it.
