Describe your network setup

A mesh network from link sys as bridge forom Hiper internet 1000/1000

The ARC screen shot that you have posted shows that ARC can connect to the Roon Cloud servers (green status indicator) but cannot connect to your roon server (red status indicator). Further it suggests that there is an issue with your Port Forwarding setup.

You say that you have a Hiper internet connection. Is this Hiper in Denmark (hiper.dk)? If so, they use CG-NAT by default which does not support Port Forwarding but it appears that you can ask to be given a public (or static) ip address that does support Port Forwarding. I don’t know whether there will be an additional cost associated with getting a public ip address.

So. You have two options in order to get Roon ARC working when away from home:

  1. Talk to your ISP and get them to give you a public ip address (one that supports Port Forwarding) and then setup port forwarding on your router according to the guide linked above. This will be more difficult if you have two or more routers on your local network.

  2. Use Tailscale. This is a solution that works even with CG-NAT and multiple routers on your network. It involves setting up Tailscale on your Roon Server and on your mobile. This is relatively easy to do if you are using a Windows, MACOS or linux roon server or a modern ROCK install (UEFI boot and RoonOS build 271), a Nucleus Titan or a Nuclues One. However, on the original Nucleus and Nucleas Plus devices and ROCK installs using BIOS boot (RoonOS build 259) this is not possible. Instead you will have to setup Tailscale on another computer that is left always on (e.g. a Raspberry Pi) and configure it as a Subnet Router.

Hi @lrproconsult,

Since your screenshot indicates you have a Mac Mini RoonServer, Tailscale will be the simplest option. This bypasses port forwarding entirely.

See here for instructions to setup Tailscale on the Mac Mini:

You’ll then just need to download the Tailscale app to your phone and connect. ARC may still indicate that it has a port forwarding problem, but you should be able to reach the server via cellular data.
