ARC unable to connect to Roon Core after update (ref#VT67IE)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· ARC can't connect to the Roon core. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, tried Tail Scale, looking at my router which does not have the suggested setting, and a few other things I can't remember at the moment. The version of software is: 2.60, build 1629. Server was bought on Audiogon. It's a home built Roon Labs Poor Man's NUCLEUS+. ARC worked well until one of the updates about year or so ago.

Tell us about your home network

· Router is the latest Xfinity Model XB8 Revision 2.5, Uptone EtherREGEN network switch. Though I do use a VPN (surfshark) it is not installed on the server. It does not matter if it's enabled or not.

I’m also having the same issue:

{
“ipv4_connectivity”: {“status”:“NetworkError”,“status_code”:526,“error”:“error code: 526”},
“ipv6_connectivity”: {“status”:“NetworkError”,“status_code”:526,“error”:“error code: 526”},
“external_ip”: {“actual_external_ip”:“194.aaa.bbb.ccc”,“actual_external_ipv6”:“2a07:ddd:eee:fff:ggg:hhh:iii:jjj”,“router_external_ip”:“null”},
“natpmp_autoconfig”: {“status”:“NotFound”},
“upnp_autoconfig”: {“status”:“NotFound”},
“multinat_autoconfig”: {“status”:“Failed”,“error”:“No uPnP Routers found on LAN”}
}

Additionally, here, ARC does not even work when connected to the home network. Edit: Disconnecting, clearing ARC storage and cache (I use android) and restarting ARC fixed the local connection issue but the outside access issue remains.

In my case, I have a static IP address and port forwarding has been manually setup and working.

Router: Opnsense
Switch: Zyxel XMG1915-18EP

All Roon related devices (Roon Server, remotes and endpoints on the same (default) VLAN with a 10.212.153.0/24 subnet. Roon (not ARC) around the house works as expected not withstanding the slow home page and artist page loading that has been reported by many people elsewhere.

Ipv4 and native ipv6 connectivity working with static ipv4 address and ipv6 prefix. No CG-NAT.

Manual port forwarding configured for ARC (and other devices - still working). IPV6 firewall pinhole configured for ARC (and other devices - still working).

Update:

After doing the clean restart of ARC (after clearing ARC storage and cache on android), I have found that ARC will connect to my server when my mobile is connected through cellular and works fine.

However the normal Roon client Roon ARC settings page continues to report ‘Not Ready’ with the 526 error.

Thus this would appear to be a fault in the connectivity test rather than with the connectivity itself.

Hi @Leighton_Freeze

Just a heads-up: the “Error 526” that @Wade_Oram is seeing is actually a widespread display glitch on our end right now. Since your issue has been going on for a year, yours is almost certainly a local configuration setting rather than a cloud bug.

@Leighton_Freeze Since you are using the Xfinity XB8, the “Advanced Security” feature (usually found in the xFi app) is the most likely culprit here—it loves to block ARC. Definitely try turning that off temporarily to see if the connection goes through.

Also, regarding Tailscale: if your “Poor Man’s Nucleus” is running Roon OS (ROCK) in UEFI mode, you can use the tailscale.https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/tailscale-setup-instructions-roonos-roonserver

@Wade_Oram please ignore the 526 error code for now—it’s a red herring. Since you are on OPNsense and it’s actually failing to connect remotely, just double-check that your WAN firewall rule matches the port listed in Roon Settings > ARC. Sometimes Roon decides to reset that port back to default (55000) after an update, breaking your manual rule.
